Hi there.

Is it possible to move just the server missions folder?

I know it’s possible to move the whole save games folder but that’s not ideal for what I need to do.

I run a server and myself and some of my friends make missions for it, i run a Dropbox file that they are all connected to, so they make a mission, stick it in their Dropbox and then it pops up on the server Dropbox, I then have to move it into the saved games missions folder manually before we can play it. I would love to take my step out of the process, so that they can upload it to their Dropbox and it pops up in the missions folder.

To do this I was planning on moving the missions folder directly into the server Dropbox. So they can upload into it then use the web browser to add and start the mission without me being there to do anything at all

I can’t move the save games folder into the Dropbox because it’s too big, so it needs to just be the folder the server/web GUI sees as the missions folder.

Is it possible? Or does someone know of a way to do this another way?

Yes, using Window's MKLINK /J command. I moved mine to the OneDrive cloud, so that my missions would have a Backup and also automatic versioning. It looks like this:

The /Saved Games/DCS.openbeta/Missions folder is pointing out to the "0 DCS/06 DCS.Missions" folder within my cloud drive.

I use a program called Link Shell Extension for similar things. It's a simple right-click based system.

I use it to put my Sims 4 save folder on One Drive to synch between my computers so I can play the same families no matter where I am. (Which these days is sitting at home.)

Windows 10 64-bit | Ryzen 9 3900X 4.00GHz (OC) | Asus Strix B450-F | 64GB Corsair Vengeance @ 3000MHz | two Asus GeForce 1070 Founders Edition (second card used for CUDA only) | two Silicon Power 1TB NVMe in RAID-0 | Samsung 32" 1440p Monitor | two ASUS 23" 1080p monitors | ASUS Mixed Reality VR | Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS | MFG Crosswind

A-10C Warthog | AV-8B Harrier (N/A) | F/A-18C Hornet | F-16C Viper | F-14B Tomcat | UH-1H Huey | P-51D Mustang | F-86F Saber | Persian Gulf | NTTR

cool, I've downloaded it and installed it and created a junction, this program is way easier than the cmd version! however...

I can see the folder in Dropbox and if I move something out or into it, it works within the computer however Dropbox has a red x next to it and it doesn't seem to update across machines, any ideas on what to do?

this would be so much easier if I could just point the server/DCS to the location I wanted

EDIT:

HADENT READ @Rudel_chw POST CORRECTLY needed to put the missions folder in the dropbox and the junction into saved games!

and because surely I can't be the only one whos an idiot here's my step by step

STEP 1)

Download and install this (thanks for link @panton41)

https://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/hardlinkshellext.html

STEP 2)

Move the "missions" folder from saved games to the application of choice (dropbox - my choice, One Drive or iCloud or whatever)

STEP 3)

go to the folder you want to link ("missions" in dropbox) Right Click and choose "Pick Link Source"

STEP 4)

navigate to your DCS Saved Games folder, right-click and choose "Drop As" -> "Junction"

STEP 5)

Crack open a drink and celebrate, Cause it's done!

Cheers for all your help guys

You can use the MKLink command in windows

e.g.

mklink /j "C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta_server\Missions\DCSMissions" "d:\DCSMissions"

This would allow you to put missionfiles into d:\DCSMissions and DCS would access that from the normal folder.

MK Link has several options other than /j - so do google it. I have literally jsut done it so dont know if it will survive a reboot. I assume it will but if not it's easy to script it.

I'll do it the same way. AFAIK, you can add more folder to dropbox, which will be synchronised. So my plan is, to add the saved games/.../missions folder to my dropbox. With that, you shouldn't have the copy&paste action anymore.

Update: I tried it yesterday, but it needs a paid dropbox upgrade. 😕

Will looking for some work around and report, if I'm successfull.

Question on this. With every other edit in DCS does it need to be redone after a DCS update?

DCS updates only touch the program folder (typically at /Program Files/Eagle Dynamics) ... it won't touch the /Saved Games/DCS/ folder where the missions are.

Not true, I do not have a paid Dropbox account and mine works fine, neither do the 3 other people who it is shared with

we can all drop a mission into our drop boxes and it instantly appears on the server machine ready to go, no paid account required

I used the mklink /j variant.
