Triggerhappy69 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 no no no.. get pedals..period I couldn't agree more.. Flying without pedals would like driving a car with only three wheels.. Sure it works..! But wouldn't you rather have that last wheel and get the full experience..? Also for A2G strafing attacks. I find myself totally lost without pedals..! And i a helicopter I can't even see how it would be practical to fly straight without them..? That being said.. I have tried several different types of pedals, but I still prefere the ones I made myself.. They are super simple to make, and then you can adapt them to the width you like.. "But (504)Brewber said they were'nt friendly.. So I took'em out.!" [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
RedTiger Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 So you guys are telling me that fighter pilot or bomber pilots dont use pedals that much except only taxi? To more weight to the argument, now that I have them, I use the rudder pedals all the time in fighter jets. You can the rudder to point your nose while you turn or just keep it level. There are other things too. Once you have dedicated hardware for the rudder, you'll understand.
brewber19 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 erm...I disagree. If you're flying the 25/25T you will frequently be using the pedals, usually for minor corrections in cannon runs etc but more often to stop the a/c from wing-stalling in tight turns, or just to maneouvre sharply and stay airborne. Pedals are a must, much better than twisty grip due to longer "throw" of the control, and by not using a twisty grip you avoid any adverse push/pull on the elevator or aileron when you get..er..excited. Mind you, thats just my opinion/experience ;) No-one thing they are used for is when wind is causing excessive yaw during landing. Shaman Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I don't know about fighter and bomber pilots, but I heard Marine pilots use pedals to work on their thighs on those long flights. So if you see a flight of Harrier yawing from side to side then you know what's up. That means pilot is eager to go to the man's room, and moments later.. it is over  51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer

Pilotasso Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Pedals are used in every slow manuevering, from dogfighting to landing. You shouldnt fly without a set. .
bogusheadbox Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 To be honest. No matter what plane you are flying, you should be using rudders for ALL turns. pedals will give you more accuracy over rudder travel than a twist stick. Get them, you won't look back. Also if you are about the simulation side of things. Then flying with pedals add to the immersion.

CAT_101st Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Well im convinced that i should get peddals, now i just need to decide which ones :) If your not going to build your own go with the Saitek. Aeroscout Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 If your not going to build your own go with the Saitek. As soon as I have the money that is what I am going to get. their nice and wide for a cocpit. Saitek's good for a home made pit because they are wider. If you have the sick and part of the panel going between your legs, the wider consiguration is so much better. I'm so glad i went with saitek now that I'm getting in to pit building. Haven't tried CH. I'm sure they're good, but there is no tension adjustment, a big plus for the saiteks. DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices

Roge Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Thanks for this thread guys, planning to get the Hotas Cougar anyway (give my bro the Saitek) and have been looking at different pedal sets for a couple of months now, either too cheap or too expensive but together with the Cougar the Simpeds are an absolute must have at the right quality/price point :) http://home.arcor.de/p.madel/simped/simp001.htm I also saw these puppies: http://www.simcontrol.co.uk/pedalpage.htm :book:
33 309th_Hedgehog Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Nice finding Shaman. I didn't see it before. Pitty it's compatible only with Cougar. You are wrong. The above link was for the specially designed Cougar version. Try this link directly to the manufacturers products sheet: http://www.dhs-electronic.de/homeeng.htm Here you will find the different versions. The first one (SIMPED-F16/USB) is a general USB solution. The third one (SIMPED-F16/C) is the special COUGAR version. So far I understand that. JDski Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 If you have the cougar and your getting the simpeds, make sure you get the ones made to work with the cougar. F16/c I had a pair of old simpeds that still worked as great as the day I got them, except they were so old, they weren't compatable with the cougar. So I had to fork out around $400 after shipping and taxes for the new F16/c pedals. I think my old ones were under $130. I also got hit by cutoms adding another $20. They called me asking if they had any North Korean DRAMS in them, lol. Not many sims support the toe brakes, but I do have them activating the brakes in Lomac, but not with independant left/right control.
VMFA-Blaze Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Well good news im getting a huge tax return so ill be getting the SIM PEDS! Awsome replies guys and thank you very much! Since your going to RICH (LOL).... You should really look into the U2 NXT Cougar mod .. I installed this about 1 1\2 years ago and I'm glad that I did, not that you actually need it but it does add more control ....
