Hello,

I was wondering if there was a difference between the DCS steam edition and DCS 2.5 on the DCS website? Where is the best place to download DCS from? I am just starting back up simming so sorry for the newbie questions.

Open Beta version always gets new products, features and fixes first before stable version, but, being Beta, it also has much more new bugs and glitches in it. It's up to you to decide what's better for you.

The good thing is, you can have both installed and functional separately on your PC (if only you have enough space), or, you can convert one into another without reinstalling the whole thing if you change your mind.

I was wondering if there was a difference between the DCS steam edition and DCS 2.5 on the DCS website?

They are almost identical .. the main difference is that maintenance chores are easier on Steam, for example on Steam you administer the DLCs that you want installed, through this Window:

On the stand alone DCS you do the same through a harder to use "Module Manager".

Also, participating on the Openbeta is easier on Steam, while on the stand-alone version you need to install the Openbeta using a Utility software.

Checking files integrity is also easier on Steam, while on stand-alone you use a separate Utility.

Finally, usually the download speeds are higher on Steam.

Where is the best place to download DCS from?

Probably Steam is easier and faster ... but I prefer the Stand-Alone version direct from the developer, as I prefer to fully support the developer, instead of having Steam take a 30% cut.

I am just starting back up simming so sorry for the newbie questions.

Welcome back, to this wonderful hobby
