Can we create a dedicated ‘STL’ sub-folder/section under Home Cockpits?

Just a quick question for the mods, can we create a ‘Home Cockpits - STLs’ sub-folder/section in this directory for anyone who has designed and created cockpit parts and who are looking to share the STLs?

I think it’d be good to have dedicated section devoted to sharing 3D models parts!

Thanks

Great idea! I‘m supporting this proposal!

Have you heard of supermarkets?

Nobody really likes them but they make life heeps easier.

Ideally “we” would set up a spot where more of these odds and ends could be parked. Though, no one seems interested in working together and giving up their kingdom.

So in the end, yeah thingiverse.

I don’t know have you’ve come to the generalisation that no one really likes supermarkets and I think you even contradict yourself by saying that they make peoples lives easier.

Aside from the fact that thingiverse has a terrible search implementation and people share things that have nothing to do with flight sim home cockpits, it’s terribly slow.

I really don’t know why the simply suggestion of creating a dedicated sub-folder here is a controversial idea.

People not giving up their ‘kingdoms’ isn’t really a reason, I myself have shared a number of STL files recently that took me a long time to put together (as have numerous others on this forum)

You’re misunderstanding me. I meant no offense or to put words into anyone’s mouth.

The point is a centralized spot for models, links and code would be a leap forward.

Most ppl i’ve spoken to are not interested though. Most of them are makers.

They have a sticky setup at Checksix

Problem with sharing 3D files is that it takes business away from the designers who have the parts up on Shapeways. We get upset when our hard work gets passed around for free and we dont get any acknowledgement.

Sometimes it takes weeks or months of unpaid research in doing rare and complex part designs.

I appreciate the argument on shapeways makers. There are choices made by different people.

Personally, I don’t believe (ideologically) in the shapeways business model. But there’s a whole different discussion I’m not up for.

Anyways, I don’t think the OP was on about them and their designs. As was I.

My comments were about makers in a wider sense (modelers, coders, electronics engineers and toolers etc) who do share their knowledge and knick knacks. Either without or under a freeware or creative commons license.

Most of them aren’t interested in bringing their things to a centralized spot. Which is not criticism but rather just an observation.

To be honest I don't see the issue with having an own section here for STLs from people who are willing to share for free / donation vs. people who'd like to sell on a plattform like shapeways. And if someone takes your design from shapeways and upload anywhere for free he'd do it anyway (Thingiverse or Github).

It's a pitty that many shared files (like FoxDeltas) are hidden in single topics and getting lost. I'd prefer to have a location where I could go and find such files easier. Thingiverse is a nightmare if you're using the search function.

That I agree on..Thingverse is a nightmare and Yeggi is huuuuuge.A dedicated sticky thats well organized will be most welcome.
