EDIT UPDATE: Ok thanks lads... i had so many logic errors that the mission was totally fubared...

Been resolved. I dont think the lag was caused by the number of friend and foe.. just dodgy logic.

I was trying to make some mulitplayer / coop missions for small group i play with.

But i'm a LockOn newbie. And I'm using Flaming Cliffs

The one problem i found so far is Massive Lag.

I made what i thought was a fairly simple mission:

4 A-10s

4 F15

Ground Targets.. 3 or 4 groups. - ranging from 2 to 6 in a group.

1 Small Ship group - (3 ships)

1 Russian fighter group.. (3 planes)

2 Small Russian chopper groups, (3 choppers in all)

these numbers are approx. as i'm just going from memory.

When i tested it , my PC could not manage it.. i was lagging like a git.

I'm not sure if the lag would of subsided after a minute or two as i didn't wait to find out. Maybe i should of sat on the runway for a couple of minutes to see..

I don't get any lag on any of the pre built in-game missions using the same settings.

Any idea what is going on?

My rig is: AMD64 3500+, ATI all-in-wonder x800pro, 2GB RAM, x-fi sound, sata150 HD. Very well maintained XP pro

Thanks for any help.

1st keep in mind that MP (no matter which mission) has lower FPS than SP. So think about lowering your graphic settings.

2nd try to remove the ships and look how it works.

Thats all so far...

thanks mate... yeah removing the ships helped.

It appears i cant have as a complex mission as i'd hoped. Looks like i'll just have to have several simple missions that we can play back to back.

I wanted a mission with 5 f-15 and 5 A-10 with plenty for all to do.

One other thing i'm having trouble with is testing the missions.

Whenever i have any 'clients' as pilots i dont seem to be able to test/fly when i have one plane as 'player'. Is this configuration simply not possible?

Is it either no clients and one player... or all clients?

I'm diving back into the manual...but is there a good guide anywhere to creating missions?. the manual seems a little sparse on this subject.

Again thanks for any help....

When you set all flyable planes as 'clients' it means that they are only available when the mission is hosted and players join it as network clients (such as when you use hyperlobby).

When I create my missions, I always leave one of the AC as player to test it and save it as mission-wip if I intend to fly it during testing, or I set them to AI, and watch what happens. Once complete, I switch the player to a client, and save it without the -wip.

Missions can be complicated, but you need to be careful with what happens with those units and how close they are located to one another. I recently designed a mission with over 100 ground units, and 20 aircraft which performed reasonabley, and most of the 100 units were located in an area of less that 20x20 km and duked it out.

The absolute best advice i can give you is to get a testing partner to help you. Another pair of eyes, even if all they do is fly what you have made, is invaluable.

Thanks.. this is exactly what i think i'm doing.... but something is not right, as i cant fly the plane that is set to 'player'.

I just tried setting all planes to AI except one as player.. and i still could not fly or even see it. I'm doing something horribly wrong!

I'll keep on plugging away... but it very frustrating at the minute.

EDIT: this sounds like a really dumb question.. but here goes.. What is the ON button that is to the left of client button.. the green ON? Cant seem to find a reference to it in the guide.

That's the "hide" button. The unit won't show up in the briefing screen when the button is lit up.

thanks.. lol you'd think it would be 'hide' rather than 'on'... but thanks for the info.

When you set all flyable planes as 'clients' it means that they are only available when the mission is hosted and players join it as network clients (such as when you use hyperlobby).

OR on your own to mission test without the likes of Hyperlobby. I say this because...

When I create my missions, I always leave one of the AC as player to test it and save it as mission-wip if I intend to fly it during testing, or I set them to AI, and watch what happens. Once complete, I switch the player to a client, and save it without the -wip.

Why not leave all the user aircraft as client and just start the mission as HOST? You can then select any client aircraft, jump into the cockpit, and mission test. Hyperlobby et. al. make it easier for other people to join the mission but you can hop into any multiplayer mission on your hard drive by simply starting the mission as host.

But perhaps you already know this.

Thanks for the tips. I generally leave one as flyable though so that I can just hit the fly button from the editor to test, and come straight back to it to tweak things...

I tend to edit things a lot ;)
