Hello all,

This is my first post so go easy on me! I’m new to PC gaming and the flight sim genre (although very familiar with both PC’s and gaming).

I recently discovered the world of DCS and rushed out to get me a Spitfire! It’s been great but now the aircraft has adopted an uncontrollable amount of pitch up! - my AV-8B is fine.

I always adjust trim but there’s not enough trim in the world to put her back in level flight.

Using the mission “Sochi-Adler Defence” as an example, I spawn and immediately select the input graphic (Crtl+Ent) and can see that my input control is set at default behind the neutral pitch axis line (roll is alright). If I pull fully back the position diamond moves to max range but this isn’t happening when pushing forward. It’s like the default starting position is set to +10% Y or something!

Trouble shooting

Running Windows 10 64bit.

Using a X52 which I’ve unplugged. All other devices besides keyboard and mouse are unplugged.

Have turned off Force Feedback.

Removed all mods including folders that had been setup for OvGME.

Have run a repair and clean.

Have deleted saved game controls.

Could someone please confirm the default pitch position at start up for the Spitfire. Please help!

Hi Simon,

Welcome to the Forums! This sound like an Axis issue. I would first check to make sure that you have no conflicting axis assignments. The next thing I would check is that your X-52's drivers are up to date and that the configuration software for the device is not causing any issues. if you could post a screenshot of your control set up and your control indicator It might help.

First thing to check might be your bindings. When you get a new aircraft, DCS often, very "helpfully", adds default assignments to each of your controllers, for the main control axes. this means that you might have your rudder pedals assigned to pitch, as well as the joystick, for example.

To check, just go to the adjust controls screen, via the ESC menu in your spitfire module. In the dropdown box in the top left of the screen, select axis commands. You should have a column for each of your controllers and there should be rows for each of the axis commands, such as pitch, roll, rudders, throttle etc. Check that you only have one controller mapping for each of the control axes. If not, select the unwanted ones, in turn, and press the CLEAR buitton at the bottom of the screen, until the unwanted mappings are all gone.

The diamond position (both neutral and fore/aft limits) is normal for DCS Spit, it's always been like that and that's how it's supposed to be for some reason.

That being said, in flight, the plane should react to trim inputs, if it doesn't, that's a separate problem. You're not the first guy reporting it, though. Follow the thread below and maybe you'll find some hints, usually it was a controller issue:

Thanks for the prompt responses!

@Repth - I've previously deleted all the saved controls and have check the "Axis Commands" again, "Pitch" assigned to "JOY_Y". No other instance of this being assigned anywhere else. I'll check the drive but it's fine on the AV-8B. I've tried with the joystick unplugged and no Logitech software profile selected and it's the same.

@Greyman - as above, have checked assignment and looks good.

Thanks for you help but anything else I can check?

Other than that I would check your aircraft's config in flight. Flaps up? What RPM and Boost are you cruising at? She is quite the rocket ship due to the large wing area. You should be around 25-2600 rpm and no more than 4-6 on the boost gauge in cruise (if i remember correctly).

Posted

Flaps and gear are up, no bombs, when attempting to cruise at 27500rpm, 4lb boost, fully trimmed nose down, she still rises and loops over.

It's like the default pitch position is back of center and I can't counter this input without pushing the joystick forward constantly, I know it's lively but this is ridiculous!

27,500 RPM?! No wonder she is climbing like a banshee (kidding ;)). I'll have to test when I get home from work. Have you tried starting from the ground? Does that give you the same issue?

I've checked this issue in both the available missions, "Battle over the Lake" & "Sochi-Adler Defen". The former starts in flight the latter is a hot ramp start.

If you could start "Sochi-Adler Defen" and check your default neutral input controls at spawn that would be very helpful.

Sorry Simon, I didn't get a chance to fly last night. The attached are the missions you asked for. I didn't have any issues controlling the aircraft. Sounds like it might be a controller issue. Maybe check what keys you have bound to your trim in the plane. It might be fighting your inputs.

Diamond position on the indicator is a sum of stick position and trim action, so in level flight, IF everything works fine, it should be more or less centered, as seen on Repth's screens above. I'll paste 2D screen below, with indicator visible more clearly.

I suspect other culprit, though. You said you're new here. Do you use "game flight mode" (to be set somewhere in gameplay options), or simulation mode? The trims don't work in the former, only in the latter (one of known DCS shortcomings). Maybe that's where the issue is.
