Supercarrier quick missions - not ATC confirmation to land?

First flight with the SC, and I obviously had to take the Tomcat in for a Case 1. However, when I radio the Washington ATC as inbound for landing, I keep getting not approved message. This happens no matter how far or close I am to the carrier. Am I missing something?

 

Also, I'd love to try starting up and taking off from the SC, but can't seem to find a quick mission to do so. Can we please get one?

I'm a dolt - turns out that even though I'd purchased SC, I hadn't installed it! Now installing, should work fine.

Ha! Me too! EXACT same thing. Could not figure out what was going on. Tried asking for permission again and again until I was on top of the boat. Went in for a landing anyway, and failed to trap (though everything looked right), Went a-googling and saw this post. So, we are dolts together, but your sharing your experience helped me figure it out. For that, I, and I am sure many like me, thank you! Downloading now ...

Just out of curiosity - what happened when you landed on the boat without having it installed? Was that with our quickstart missions? Was the boat visible in any way differently? (apart from ATC not working)

 

I didn't get to test yet what happens when you dont have it installed, the focus so far was getting it right ofc when you have it installed..

As I noted, I didn;t notice anything at all different. Just boltered. I am not the greatest at recovering, but even if my numbers are horrible I can usually trap. My first thought was that I forgot to deploy the hook. But no ... So then I thought at first that some logic had been tweaked in the flight model to be really strict about AOA etc. Only after reading this thread I realized it was because I had not downloaded the SC. But otherwise, as far as I can recall, it looked identical.

When quick starting on the boat, you start the flight in mid-air, about a mile in front of the SC.

 

When coming in to land, you don't get any approval over the radio to start recovery, and then your hook bounces off the deck, with no on-screen ball indicator.

Oh yep, forgot about the the lack of FLOS indicator. It did not occur to me at all that this was missing as I was not expecting it either --- thought it was a special option.

 

As an aside, you know what's weird? With the old carrier, I could actually see and understand the ball fairly well even in VR (Rift S, all settings really low). With the new carrier, the "glow" around the lights makes it more difficult to make out -- it's just a fuzzy mass of glow. So while with the old carrier I could do pretty OK without any "metavisual" aids, with the new one it seems I need it. Which is a shame! I know folks love the FLOS, but I find it and the little mouse pointer ball that pops up incredibly immersion breaking ....
