G3 Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 saw this after following another thread to simware, most impressive. http://www.simw.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=dsp_product_details&pid=1844
G3 Posted January 28, 2008 Author Posted January 28, 2008 interesting to think if you could get this to relate directly to the attitude of the aircraft from game ie: lofc and dcs bs thru lua. basically the motor/servo controllers just need an input to control the position this could be achieved with an anologue output from the pc, or better still a direct digital value. i am thinking also the game data eventually sent would need to be a mix of, inertia and attitude, slip angle and speed. so maybe some maths to be done in between game and output, value scaling and expressions of some sort. those with lua experience please advise. i have access to some stuff like this and it just hit me, it could be done if we can work out how to get the data from game lua to output value say 0-10v or 4-20ma ? just a single axis like pitch would be fine to start with. lets say then to start. we take the pitch angle of the aircraft and export it to another app. already done in mnemonics lovp guauges, so tick that off. and guys build gauges that move so the output side is possible :) tick that off too. now to convert the lua data to an output value for the controller? i guess it now depends if its variable speed motors or servo drives, a pretty big difference, servo being precise and the vf not so good, speed control yes, positioning not so good. with a reduction gearbox it may give satisfactory performance. i made a mini 2 axis motion platform years ago with just some rc radio gear, using servo's and operated the transmitter to make it move. this time its just controlled thru lua, if we can get the data to the servo's i will build a mini one. i remember now seeing a guy with a model plane next to his pc mimic-ing his flight sim just like i describe above, so it can be done. edit: i see its a phidget i want. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvIVEaPqCtE&NR=1
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Pretty cool stuff if you like it you should check out some of the topics at www.mycockpit.org about home motion pit development. While the the eq. in the link you provided is cool, its just not practical to the average pit builder yet do to the ridiculously high price. http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
SUBS17 Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I read on one of the lockon forums that there is a 360x360 degree sim with lockon on it. I used the same sim but it had an older program on it. It looked quite simple in design but featured roll, pitch, yaw and up/down movement. Wish I new where the machine was it was side by side two seater as well. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Check out this guys approach pretty neat! Lots more in this forum http://www.mycockpit.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=76 http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad

G3 Posted January 29, 2008 Author Posted January 29, 2008 some of those are pretty dam fine, especially the last one. the flight sim guy had the right idea with the axis pivot points virtually in line with his cg. we may have stumbled onto this years project  or fantasy :)
CAT_101st Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 this years project  or fantasy :) Fantasy YES, Project only if I will the loto $$$$$$:smilewink: Home built PC Win 10 Pro 64bit, MB ASUS Z170 WS, 6700K, EVGA 1080Ti Hybrid, 32GB DDR4 3200, Thermaltake 120x360 RAD, Custom built A-10C sim pit, TM WARTHOG HOTAS, Cougar MFD's, 3D printed UFC and Saitek rudders. Joe Kurr Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Here's another one: http://www.lan4friends.de/cockpit/cockpit.html When he's flying, you can watch the action via his web cam :) And even better: he says he will bring it to the Lowland Tiger Meet 2008! So maybe I get a chance to take a ride in it :) If money isn't an issue, you can also try Desdemona at TNO in the Netherlands.
