Hi guys,

I'm trying to understand a bit better how Jester is handling the countermeasures, and I'm a bit confused.....

I had some tries with test missions and I'm still unsure about what I'm doing....

Apparently if I set a chaff program and ask for Dispense order chaff program, Jester is launching selected program when engaged by a radar. If I set single he just launches one chaff per one chaff and if I ask chaff tight, he doesn't use chaff. Am I right?

But for flares, apparently he never uses the selected program for whatever reason? Even if I ask for dispense order flares program and with a 10x10 flares program, he just launches one or couple of flares when he sees an IR missile incoming.

What are the good practice regarding what we ask Jester for CMS?

Thanks for the tips!

I would also add the fact that Jester doesn't recognize CM loadout in CM launchers and doesn't change the loadout settings accordingly. If you take more chaff then you will drop chaff with DLC button as system thinks you are launching flares

Do you set a different AN/ALE-39 loadout in ground crew settings?
It changes the flare/chaff programmer wheels indicated positions on the kneeboard, and i belive jester should adjust them to whatever is there

Yeah I did change ALE 39 loadout, but thats the thing, Jester doesnt adjust programmer wheels. So right now, in multiplayer, if there is no human RIO, you are stuck with 60 flares and 40 chaff.

"Fortunately", jester is very conservative with chaff so rarely you will run out of it...

You can get Jester to set the ALE39 thumb wheels to match the load out.  Here is my extensive over explanation.

I had some success with  setting the Chaff to pilot controlled, versus flares, this using the pilot's DLC button.  If the gear/flaps are up then the DLC button is the pilot's countermeasure control but you can only have flare OR chaff, not both.  Of course the RIO has control of both flares and chaff.

Jester menu, 6, 2, 2.  (This is the RIO's ALE37 Flare MODE switch in the NORM position).

I change the load out to have a significant amount of chaff available. Here is my checklist and some notes.  I spent hours testing....and reading...and testing so if you do this in sequence then Jester will set the thumb wheels to match what the knee board shows and you will be able to click the chaff/DLC 64 times.

The LAU-138 is a replacement for the rail that the sidewinders mount. The LAU-138 is a chaff dispenser.  You will see it listed on the weapons load out screen.  There is a complicated arrangement to control and account for the extra chaff.  But if you look at the Knee Board after the weapons load is complete you will see the settings for the thumb wheel switches.

IF you are in the PIC seat with Jester in the back:

Provides 10 flares and 64 chaff with pilot controlled chaff

Chaff load: Comms menu  F8 F6 F6

Arms: Alt+’  Set flare slider to 10.  Select LAU-138 sidewinders

Pilot Chaff: Jester 6 2 2

Arms again (after the weapons load is complete):   Top off fuel, Gun Ammo 670

Verify Load Out via the  Knee Board

IF you are in the RIO seat or have a RIO:

Brief the RIO on CM procedures:  Make sure he knows how to dispense flare and chaff (INS DEL or mapping).

                                                         Explain the LAU-138 dispenser.

Check Knee Board for the load out.

Countermeasures ALE37:

Provides 10 flares and 64 chaff:

PILOT: F8 to F6 F6

PILOT: Weps ‘ menu 10 Flare 100 Chaff

RIO: Set LOAD thumbwheels FCCC

RIO: Click  RESET Switch and hold 5 sec

RIO: Flare MODE switch to NORM

Arms again (after the weapons load is complete):   Top off fuel, Gun Ammo 670

Verify Load Out via the  Knee Board

Provides: 50 Flares 40 Chaff

PILOT: weps ‘ menu 100 Flare 100 Chaff

RIO: Set LOAD thumb wheels to match the knee board

RIO: Click  RESET Switch and hold 5 sec

RIO: Flare MODE switch to NORM

Arms again (after the weapons load is complete):   Top off fuel, Gun Ammo 670

Verify Load Out via the  Knee Board

This Seems like a lot to do just for some extra chaff but I was sick of the radar guided missiles ruining my day, after day, in multi-player.  Plus it is cool nerd stuff to understand the countermeasures.

REF:

I learned a lot from the Fly-And-Wire article titled "RIO seat: Quick look at the Countermeasures (AN/ALE-39 and LAU-138),"  this is the link if it is allowed here:

For jester eject flare , you need manual eject one first , so he can eject with selected program on jester menu . That's a bug , maybe .

Holy crap good thing i checked, I was about to post a question asking the same thing. Any word from HB at all regarding Jessie and counter measures or are we so far going of our own experiences

personally I’ve not been able to get him to do anything with the cms so I usually set myself up with what I’m likely to encounter. So I set it so I control the chaff when I’m in radar range for AA/SAM threats and then if I get close enough to be at risk of heat seekers I’ll switch back to flairs, altho this is annoying and I’d love to have Jessie handle it all, somewhat like the a10 and fa18s auto cms system I guess

Unless I’m flying iron hand then I want control of the chaff lol

very interested to see what HB have to say on the matter
