Hi. I’ve got to grips with much of the Harrier systems but can’t figure out the tpod. In particular how can I stop the tpod switching to DMT every time I designate a target with my tdc aft switch. When it switches to dmt I cannot last the target. Hope this makes sense.

The AFT button switches to DMT, so you don't want to do that.

Instead, you may need to use FWD to switch take control of your Mavericks after uncaging.

Process looks something like this:

1. Select weapon, master arm, etc.

2. TPOD (turn on, mode for day/night/water, laser etc.)

3. TPOD slew and lock (only locks in one of the modes due to contrast I think, otherwise it just tracks ground, not lock for moving target)

4. Uncage Mav, now Mav TV looks where TPOD (or DMT) was looking

5. FWD Take control of the mav to steer, lock etc. (slew now moves Mav cam instead of TPOD)

6. Fire (when Mav has lock)

So you use either DMT or TPOD, not both. Don't press the AFT button at all.

Also realize you may need to unlock or point your nose and lock a new ground position. If you have multiple targets, you should be able to slew from near the last location to new target and fire off several missiles over a short period with practice.

Does anybody know of a quick way to switch from DMT to TPOD? Sometimes accident does happen. I had to bind buttons on my stick to OSB menu and TPOD just for that, thank god I have extra buttons.

There is no hotas command for this for whatever reason. But with the tpod loaded there’s little reason to ever switch to the dmt since it has the same capabilities but also much more. Just keep the pod in HTS mode (double-click sensor select depress) and that way you won’t accidentally switch to dmt with sensor select down.

What is HTS mode? I don't see it referenced in the manual or Chuck's guide. The Sensor Select Switch: DOWN does say: HUD Scene Reject / TPOD.

It is in the manual (not Chuck’s), one of the 3 modes for TPOD operation (TPOD HOTAS CONTROL in this case). As the name implies, you can control it via HOTAS switches rather than MPCD but it can’t be used on attack runs since target designation in this mode is not considered aircraft designation.

I'm on beta version and in the file AV8BNA Pocket Guide.pdf, section:

HOTAS/TDC Controls, 117 | P a g e, TPOD Modes of Operation, is empty.

Word search returns no unique instances of HTS.

I think he was talking about the RL manual, the NATOPS.

There's a different and I assume newer manual on Razbam's own website, in the Manuals section. Just look for DCS manuals/AV8B.
