overalien Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 (edited) I can't get the HUD target designator to lock on a ground object in Computer Target mode Set-up and sequence is (applies with or without Lantirn POD in loadout): -Select Air to Ground Mode- -Master Arm on -Select GBU -Rel. Mode Single or Pairs -Ripple Time Step -Fuse Nose/Tail -Mode Computer Target -Slew up or down with VSL High/Low -Press PAL to designate point on ground Behaviour: HUD Designator moves slightly to the right and stays on Bomb Fall Line. Velocity vector and bomb fall line stay merged. designator does not lock on the ground. repeat PAL press various times (try long press, short press) - nothing. What am I doing wrong, or ist this a bug? Kondor77 Posted June 28, 2020 Posted June 28, 2020 I tried it a week ago and it worked. Now, I'm doing this without the LANTIRN pod and with Jester. The behavior you're describing sounds like you're too high in altitude. It really works best at the mid/high teens. Around low 20s it becomes very hard to designate a point on the ground, with any time left to line up a bomb run.
Eldur Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 Just had the same issue, is it really the altitude? Tried to designate at around 25k - 30k in order to stay outside of SA-8s with enough slant range.
Spurts Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 The slant range is the problem. IIRC you can't have a slant range of more than 12nm.
The_Tau Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 If diamond blinks then you are out of range, it needs to be steady Tau's Youtube channel Twitch channel https://www.twitch.tv/the0tau
Eldur Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 Just did some basic maths, when the max. slant range is 12nm, you can just designate from about 24kft at an angle of 20° or more. Think that's easy enough to remember since the 24k is also the max alt for having the LANTIRN active. Oh, well this board though, had to retype everything because it froze up on posting, followed by this: Error while saving content: %1$s error_information_x-1 Well, that is what you get when you buy Early Access, ED
