Horns Posted July 7, 2020 Posted July 7, 2020 Is there any way to get RWR hits to show on the HSD like they do on the F/A-18 SA page, and if there is would you be willing to fill me in? The manual says that 'ownship sensors' are one source of data represented on the HSD, and I would have thought the RWR is one of those, but I haven't been able to get them to show up. kengou Posted July 8, 2020 Posted July 8, 2020 Definitely not in DCS currently, and I know this feature is not in BMS. No idea about real life for the block and model being simulated. Horns Posted July 8, 2020 Author Posted July 8, 2020 Thanks, much appreciated. Guess I'll have to choose between enhanced SA and acceleration worthy of the word. SCPanda Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 The RWR on the Viper is located in a perfect place in the cockpit like the F-15. You don't have to look down at all. I don't think there is a need to have the RWR info on the MFDs. The RWR placement in the Hornet cockpit, however, is terrible.

The actual ALR-67 screen on the Hornet is considered a standby instrument, the EW page and HUD are the primary RWR displays on the Hornet and the ability to add RWR info to the SA page helps as well. In the Viper the ALR-67 is the primary, and only, RWR display. Oil In The Water Hornet Campaign. Bunny's: Form-Fillable Controller Layout PDFs | HOTAS Kneeboards | Checklist Kneeboards

In the Viper the ALR-67 is the primary, and only, RWR display. I greatly prefer the Air Force way of doing things. The RWR hits clutter up the SA and HUD displays and I find them much less readable than a large dedicated RWR right next to the HUD. Bunny Clark Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 (edited) I greatly prefer the Air Force way of doing things. The RWR hits clutter up the SA and HUD displays and I find them much less readable than a large dedicated RWR right next to the HUD. I don't think it's a Navy vs Air Force thing. The Tomcat used the ALR-67 screen as the primary as well. It seems to be more of a modern jet thing, neither the F-22 nor F-35 have dedicated RWR displays either, and neither does the F-15E come to think of it. The Hornet may have been the first US combat jet to make this decision and it seems to suffer some teething problems from it. I generally prefer to run the EW page on my left DDI, which gives a great overview of everything, but does occupy a DDI. Right now it's fine in A/A mode, other than needing to change the DDI page every time I mode switch, but once we have AZ/EL my workflow is going to get wrecked in that regard. The Hornet really seems like it just needs one more MFD. I think putting the RWR on the HUD is meant to be the remedy to that, but I agree, I don't like how cluttered it gets. The Super Hornet solved this by replacing the UFC with another screen, and I imagine running A/A with the EW page on the UFC, radar on right, AZ/EL on left, and SA on center would be about perfect. Horns Posted July 13, 2020 Author Posted July 13, 2020 Could we please revert the thread title back to what it was and move this thread back to the general sub? The thread was asking if I was seeing the symbology as I should have, not requesting anything new be included. I like seeing our aircraft represented faithfully, whether that makes them easier or harder to use. Don't forget IRL you can cycle between the HSI, SA and EW pages using the HOTAS. The HUD+SA page should give you enough quick info, and the EW page is no more than 2 presses of the castle switch away. 476th vFG/510th vFS
