Trying it out. Can't get it to work.

I wanted to try and see if this is something I want before purchasing so I'm using the trial license for both Voice Attack and Vaicom. And can't get it to work. Wondering if it's because it's trial.

I think I got everything setup correctly but either the command is not recognized because of the confidence level (set it to 60 as recommended), or nothing happens. Tried in Ka-50.

Also, I edited the speech/common.lua file in DCS to change Russian voices to English but whenever VAICOM gets started, it gets overridden. And all spoken language in game changes back to Russian. Is there way to do this in VAICOM itself? Or stop it from reverting the lua file?

Some of us are experiencing issues in the KA-50 at the moment. It is a recent issue with the latest release and is currently being looked at and relates to the non response you are getting. It seems to work OK for me with Easy Comms on so might be worth giving this a try to see whether it works for you.

The issue only seems to affect some modules.

In terms of the language, use the Force options on the preferences tab of VAICOM config.

Thanks but I don't see "Force options" in Preferences tab. Only "Force Speech" which seems to be not functioning on trial.

To use the plugin you need VA licensed version.

This is unfortunate. People have to actually "Try" for it to be a "Trial".

Perhaps you can offer a "trial" version with 20 commands.

Or Voice Attack should offer limited time full function version.

This should also be clearly indicated before people wastes their time.

You do realize that Vaicom works on top of VA but it's not a part of it or is affiliated with it? If you do own VA and are already into voice commands Vaicom is indeed free to try with some limitations.

If time is all you wasted then there isn't much to complain about is there? Is not like you bought VA just to try Vaicom and then hated Vaicom.

Some people... seriously.

I hear you but there is nothing Hollywood can do about it, he already offers a limited trial version of Viacom to try, I don't think he can really be expected to do anymore.

VA is what $10 it's hardly a king's ransom and IMHO for the cash without Viacom it's fantastic value. Not only can it be used for voice input, it can also be used for a Dx to keyboard input program. It's a really powerful little programming tool, I'm not programmer but I've got it doing stuff that I find really useful. Like tuning radios, selecting TACAN & ILS, pushing MFD buttons etc:

Add Viacom it goes to another level again

I'm not having a go but look at the price of ED and the other developers modules, your not offered these for a trial (Covid offer excepted).

What you could possibly do is download some of the free VA standalone profiles offered by Bailey for example. Then try an edited version of them in the trial version of VA. If you like them and the whole voice commands thing, buy VA. If you don't then go no futher as Viacom uses the same method of processing.

After that you could then try the trial version Viacom, sort of do it in 2 step process possibly

Personally I love both these add ons, they can have glitches, but overall it's another level of immersion

Thank you for the suggestion. This was proper response I was expecting.

Basically, it was three reasons for trying out to see if Vaicom will work for me. In the order of priority.

1. How the English comm is. And the accent of the English comm should not be annoying like the Blackshark English accent. And why it conflicts with my own sound mod and if there's way to make them both work.

2. Disable player voice.

3. How the voice recognition will work in my noisy environment I share with my family so even if I speak softly with background noise, would it recognize?

I could not test 1 and 3 without spending $10. I know it's not a lot of money but I will still be stuck with a software I will not use. Despite your reasonable promotion of VA, I have no need for VA other than for DCS (for reason #3 above). And for #1, I have to buy full VAICOM license too. So for both, it's price of some DCS module during sale.

Purpose of trial version is for people to see if it works for them or not. Hardly anyone will skim on $10 and continue using trial if they love the software.

So these were my suggestions as "feedback". I know VAICOM is not VA but these were what I thought they should do as well and already suggested to VA. Perhaps VAICOM can suggest to VA as well since they may see VAICOM as valuable plugin developer.

1. VAICOM should make a version for trial version of VA with all options but limited to 20 commands. Just a couple wingman command perhaps.

2. VAICOM should clearly indicate its requirement of "Full" VA license in order to try VAICOM.

3. VA should offer limited time fully functional VA trial.

4. Or both should offer refunds within certain days.

In the meantime, I will try your suggestion of Bailey's profile to see if my #3 problem works or not. And I'd appreciate if someone can perhaps upload on YouTube on what accent English voices are on Ka-50.

And since this is just a "feedback" based on my reasons, you can just take it as is and move on. Doesn't have to turn into an argument like "Some people" always tries to do.

Well if you have trouble loading Bailey's profiles and need them edited down to 20 commands I could help you with that.

I'm not sure if you can load a large profile with the trial version and edit it down or not.

I can't help with the BlackShark as I rarely use the module and don't have a profile for it. I have some profiles of my own mainly for some of the jets, which cover comms, kneeboard, Tacan etc: but no weapons.

Let me know, below is a video I made for another person on here, although Viacom is shown on the video its not being used and these are just some commands I incorporated into a profile to give you an idea. Bailey's will probably be a lot more sophisticated than mine. If I can help just drop me a PM or post up

I'm not clear on what you are asking about in #1. VoiceAttack and VAICOM PRO allow you to speak to the computer. They do not speak to you. Any English you hear in a YouTube video was spoken by the live player making the recording or is part of DCS itself.

If your goal #1 is to learn whether VoiceAttack will recognize your spoken English with your accent. You can test that using the trial version of VoiceAttack. Likewise you can test how well VoiceAttack will work in your noisy environment using the free trial version. You don't need VAICOM PRO at all to test those things as they are purely functions of VoiceAttack that you can test in the free trial version of VoiceAttack.

For what it's worth, I have found that even in a relatively quiet environment, VoiceAttack needs a decent headset microphone to work reliably. When I switch to the microphone built into my webcam the error rate goes up significantly.

Regarding your suggestions that VoiceAttack and VAICOM PRO should offer money back if not satisfied, keep in mind that credit card processors keep a portion of proceeds of a transaction, so you would only get back a part of your $10, or else VoiceAttack would have to bear the actual cost of your free trial. The price likely would have to be higher as a result.

I know what it does and I am aware the voices giving commands on YouTube are people. VAICOM was initially recommended to me not for voice recognition but for converting Russian comm to English. Which it can only in full version.

Your suggestion of using VA only has been suggested by Weegie and I acknowledged it already.

And people been keep telling me $10 is nothing but you're now telling me I should worry about 1.5% credit card transaction fee?
