during a steep diving both engines failure, dont know why. I started the procedure to windmill restart and according to a manual I have the procedures are:

1. Place the aircraft in a 30-degree dive.

2. Set the Bleed Air switch to OFF.

3. Set the Crossfeed switch to Crossfeed.

4. Once ITT of affected engine is below 150c, set both throttles to MAX.

5. Set the Engine Operate switch of the affected engine to IGN.

6. Once engine is operating, move Engine Operate switch back to NORM.

7. Move Crossfeed switch to OFF.

8. Set Bleed Air switch to ON.

The problem is I could not do the 5th step because I couldn't put the switches in the ING position

Need advice.

Thanks!

As always, a track would be helpful.

From your description, you suffered a dual engine failure. As far as I'm aware from the manual, the windmill air start procedure is a single engine restart procedure. In order to start the first engine after dual engine flameout, I think you are required to use the APU restart (though I'm actually not 100% sure that windmilling restarts don't work when both engines are out).

As for the flameout cause, going into a steep dive with engines in idle may cause them to flame out. In a steep dive, you should always apply some power to prevent the engines from flaming out. Could that be the cause?

Yurgon is correct about the windmill restart being appropriate for single engine failure only.

I suggest first figuring out why you suffered dual engine failure. Without knowing that it is hard to guess how to restart. For example, if you ran out of gas, restart will be harder.

I suggest you confirm that your fuel boost pumps or on before initiating the dive. If you forget that and induce negative G for too long (10S) you may be fuel starving both engines at once?

I had 8k pounds of fuel...I went for gun kill and after pull up both engines stopped. when I tried to put engine button in IGN, its pull back to norm position...

it was my first time with this situation...I really dont know what happened.

On the TM Warthog, the IGN position for the ENG OPER switches is momentary, meaning they actually need to be held down continuously. I'm assuming that's also true for the corresponding buttons of the DCS A-10C.

As Yurgon said: You need to keep the switch pressed to the IGN position until the engine comes back to life.

ok...I will try to simulate this crash to see how it works.

Just fly inverted for a while (~30+ sec) ;)

Once I shut off the engines, I could not do the restart procedure because I cant put the throttle at max..it doesnt move...

Yes, because you moved it to the OFF position.

Just fly inverted and you will get a real engine flameout.
