Gpruitt54 Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 As it is now, every aircraft must be individually assigned its aircraft controls. It would be great if there were a means of assigning user selectable controls assignments to all planes from a single interface. Maybe a second such feature for helicopters. To be realistic, there are hundreds of assignments in DCS. I am only referring to the basics like: control surfaces Gear and arresting devices view controls targeting flaps, speed brakes, etc And other universal assignments. A utility that would eliminate the need to assign these individually would be a gigantic win for DCS and its users.
upyr1 Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 There is a setting for general options- they need to use them.
kengou Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 I have different axis curves between different aircraft. The landing gear and flaps work differently on different aircraft. Wheel brakes work differently on different aircraft. I’m struggling to think of a common control binding that could actually be identical across all aircraft in the game. Mars Exulte Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 (edited) There's quite a bit of variation even on basic systems. Case and point: landing gear. Some are two position up/down switches Some are three position switches up/n/dwn Some have locking mechanisms Flaps? Some are preset positions Some are up/down toggles Some are up/down curves About the only universal functions are pitch/roll/yaw, and there, too, you're probably not going to use the same settings across all aircraft, as mentioned above, because the aircraft themselves are very different. You won't (or shouldn't, rather) use the same curves, etc, for an F-15 that you will for an Mi-8 or Su-25. Tldr: you're going to have to go in and tweak planes individually anyway, and most functions do NOT carry over 1-to-1, even if in principal they're ''the same''. They DO do that in FC3 and most functions can be copy pasted.... but then, the systems are all grossly abstracted and that's really the only reason it can be done... yet even there, you're going to have to tweak individually. Note : most aircraft have ''abstractions'' for some of this, like a command that automatically cycles the landing gear through stages/locks as needed. Gpruitt54 Posted August 9, 2020 Author Posted August 9, 2020 (edited) I use the same binding for every plane for things like Gear, flaps, canopy, speed brakes/air brakes, view, zoom, etc. There just has to be a better way than to set the same thing for every single module. I am not saying that this could work for every control. But it seems that this could work for a lot of things. What this manages are the settings in the Saved Games/DCS/Config/Input folder. There are the .lua files that hold the settings details. Edited August 9, 2020 by Gpruitt54
