Reflected Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 ...and I don't mean the audio settings. Let's say the AWACS has a "transmit message" triggered action. When I'm 20-30 miles from it it's already pretty faint and quiet. Is there any way to improve "signal strength" if you know what I mean? When the player's aircraft transmits a triggered message, it's loud enough, of course, but the difference between the two is too big. Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord
NoFear1979 Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 The only workaround I can think of is using Audacity software to boost the gain of the sound content of the file. Note that Audacity is also great for converting audiofiles into the OGG format  PC: Good enough for running DCS flawlessly on high end settings  Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas Slaw Device Rudder Pedals Trackhat Headtracker
Sedlo Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 To get around this, I'm using radio transmission in a zone, closest to the player's position, 1000 watts power and as high up on a peak as I can get. It's not ideal. Best would be having the mission editor give an altitude for the transmission source, then you could park it up 60,000ft and it would come in clear for a long way. If you'd like to be using triggered actions "transmit message", perhaps you can use the player's aircraft as the source of the transmission, but with a condition that the player's radio be tuned to the correct frequency? That was you will get a loud and clear transmission each time, but only when your conditions are satisfied. My Youtube Channel MY DCS MISSIONS

I was thinking about that too, but then I might as well use "sound to all". :/ Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord
Sedlo Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 The problems I get when using sound to all is that sometimes another sound will be triggered and “overwrite” the sound as it’s playing. Frustrating! ;) I know there is a transmission power setting on the radio transmissions, I think it maxes out at about 1000 W, should help signal strength and clarity. ChillNG Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 You can also use a bit of subterfuge to achieve this. I often do this for 'virtual' units, eg units that exist on the radio but are not actually physically placed in the mission. Just set the transmit message to the player instead and then use the Cockpit Parameters condition set to the appropriate radio/frequency to call the message when you want it...no risk of signal loss or LOS issues as the player is actually the one transmitting. Works really well for me, for example I've used it when I've had a unit placed in the mission which communicates as normal until they get shot down...I then switched to this technique to easily manage the conversation with the pilot on a survival radio.
