Ratfink Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 Just getting to grips with new Oculus Rift S Does the DCS in-game resolution setting have any difference? I see people suggesting 1920x1200 but I find any setting makes no noticible difference to the image, even lowest. No. Typically you want the resolution setting to match your monitor's native resolution. Some say they see a little performance difference setting it lower than native, I personally could not tell a difference trying this. I have a 2k monitor and Rift S I set monitor res to 1024x768 and I can play with Rift without problems. With native res on monitor I can't reach 30 fps  I'm flying since 1988 (Flight Simulator 3.0) :pilotfly:
Ratfink Posted August 27, 2020 Author Posted August 27, 2020 I have it at 1920x1440 for now, and get 40fps solid with my system. I have OTT using PD 1.4 and ASW at 45hz. I’m still tweaking a bit, but when I find the settings I’m happy with overall I’ll post them. Essentially using VR default settings but textures high and trees 80% Trying out different suggested settings for nvidia cp as well Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk CORSAIR 5000D AIRFLOW Mid Tower | AMD RYZEN 7 9800X3D | G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo EXPO RGB 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 PC5-48000C30 6000MHz | ASUS ROG X870E-E GAMING WIFI | Gigabyte RTX5080 Gaming OC 16GB | 4TB Lexar NM790 M.2 PCIe 4.0 | Seasonic Prime TX-1000 1000W 80 Plus Titanium Modular Power Supply | Lian Li Galahad II Trinity AIO 360mm | Meta Quest Pro | TM HOTAS Warthog | Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals | Win 11 Home | Asus PG348Q 34" 3440x1440 Monitor | Bose Companion 3 2.1 Sound
30mikemike Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 Are we saying that lowering your monitor's resolution runs the Rift-S better? I didn't think there was any correlation between the two. All you can do and try it and see if you have a perceivable difference. streakeagle Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 I have never seen the in-game resolution setting affect my VR fps. If it works for you, great! But I don't see any difference at all. What does matter for me is desktop resolution. It doesn't affect performance, but it affects my mouse wandering off the game and getting "window out of focus" with no in-game controls functioning until I can get my mouse back on the window. At my normal 4K desktop, the "mirror" display is relatively small with plenty of room to drift down to the task bar or any other windows that happen to be open. With a lower resolution, like 1920 x 1080, the mirror image is much larger relative to the desktop which gives the mouse less places to wander, particularly in the vertical. But I am not dropping my desktop resolution, so I just try to be careful to avoid mouse wandering. But it has killed me plenty of times during takeoffs, landings, and low altitude dogfights and is most embarrassing in multiplayer. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Svsmokey Posted August 30, 2020 Posted August 30, 2020 Yeah , the out-of-focus thing is killing me as well . In DCS> Options> VR Tab check the "Cursor confined to Game Window" box. Or you are using Alt-Tab as a key bind and you are switching windows.

It changes the behavior, but in VR, the mouse can still wander outside the VR mirror and in the worst cases, bring another app to the front making it impossible to recover without minimizing or dragging the offending app away from the DCS window, then clicking the DCS mirror to restore focus. Have you Full screen enabled in the DCS settings? This may help, idk.
