[REPORTED]Navigation - "Auto" selection always makes WPT 1 next

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

When "Auto" waypoint mode is selected, it will always make WPT 1 the next waypoint, wherever you are in the sequence.

Typically I'll deselect "Auto" at a target area to loiter. If you then manually select the next waypoint, all is well and "Auto" re-selected. At the next turn, WPT 1 is always the next waypoint.

Yeah, been this way since release. It’s a bug that may get fixed once the Coupled Autopilot modes get implemented. Auto makes the most sense in Coupled mode anyway.

There should be a cross track error indication in Nm at the HSI bottom right (In Auto SEQ) as well.

I have a report open currently that covers this, but as far as I know selecting the first waypoint is correct

"Selecting the AUTO option provides auto sequential steering to the first waypoint in the selected

sequence"

See what you mean, but one would think it should read '... to the next waypoint..', otherwise it can only be used when heading to WP1.

You can change the waypoint manually but on first use it will use the first waypoint in the sequence. Adjusting to the desired waypoint it will then continue on auto and change as the waypoints are reached.

That is my understanding of it.

thanks

In my experience - and the ED Training Mission on Waypoints is a good test bed - what happens is that if you are flying towards a WP, e.g. 4, and then switch on AUTO, it holds the path to WP4, but whenever that is reached it resets to WP0 (or 1, can't remember).

Now, clearly, if you are in a sequence of WP1 to WPx, why would you want AUTO to set you back to 0 if you switch it on in mid sequence? Surely, you would want it to carry on from where you are, i.e. in this case, it should point to WP5 once WP4 is reached.

Yes we have a report open for the sequence issue.

But the information we have is when auto is first selected it will use the first waypoint in the sequence, and not jump to another waypoint, if you are half way in your sequence of waypoints you would need to manually select the waypoint you are at in the sequence after you switch to auto.

Got you. I see now. So, in mid sequence, after switching on AUTO and going through the next WP, after the system resets to 1, you then have to manually select the WP in the sequence and then it works OK.

Thank you for that. I've been struggling with that for a long time, assuming it was a bug.

Seems to work logically now we know!

Any idea when we might get the cross track error indication when in AUTO SEQ?

Not sure about that sorry, I will try and find out
