Ooooo - a new nvidia card without the price hike?

Recommended Posts

Ti and Titan card series are always a bad investment since they depreciate very quickly, especially if you plan to upgrade with every generation. For what 30xx series is concerned, I expected higher prices. 3070 founders is on nvidia site at 520 euro, 720 euro for 3080. I'm still in full-hd with my 2070, and Rift s for VR; my performances are quite good, so a 3070 would be the best value for money if I plan to upgrade to 1440p monitor and keep my Rift s. But 720 euro for a 3080 is a good price point, so I'll have to decide if I want to spend that +200 and buy a 3080 with a 4K monitor, that could be a better investment for a future reverb g2 or similar headset. But reverb g2 is 4800000 pixels, even more than 4K (4200000 pixels), so a 3080 (a card presented as suited for 4k) could be not enough, maybe a 3090 is the best bet for a reverb g2 and I do not want to spend 1500 euro. Other than that, if real 2nd gen VR headsets with foveated rendering are near to come, maybe it's better to wait for them and probably a 3070 or 3080 should be enough with that kind of technology. That are my first considerations, but I'll wait to see real benchmarks and custom card prices to decide between 3070 and 3080.

PS I also plan to upgrade my i7 6700K to a i7 10700K; with a 3070 I could keep my 750W ali, while a 3080 maybe would need a 850W one.

One final thought. With these new generation graphics cards, Intel CPUs being currently limited to PCIe3 actually becomes a bottleneck.

Only if you are playing a title that supports NVIDIA direct connecting the GPU to the storage over PCIe4 for loading texture maps.

Video at 4K and similar mainstream VR headset resolutions doesn't saturate PCIe3.

Don't hold your breathe waiting for this feature in DCS.

That's a disappointment, I was hoping for 64,000 CUDA cores and 256 GB of GDDR7X for $250

Zen 2 and upcoming zen 3 rizen cpus already have pci-e 4. Maybe it's time to combine an amd CPU with a Nvidia VGA? If amd cards are close enough, I could wait to see them first, and then decide.
