Since AMD does something similar on both upcoming consoles, you can bet it will happen. RTX IO is basically Nvidia doing their part to support Microsoft's upcoming DirectStorage API, which they backport to Win10 from the XBox Series X.

As such, I'll expect this thing to be part of DX12 Ultimate or something. But since DCS is migrating to Vulkan, we have yet to see whether DirectStorage will be usable combined with Vulkan. I don't know whether Vulkan will have a similar way of providing this feature.

Once DCS goes Vulkan, would those APIs still apply?

Good question. I never heard of direct data transfer between m.2 SSDs and VRAM in connection with Vulkan. But I'm not an expert at all.

There is potential if the API/libraries exist for AI ML usage - obviously AI ML doesn't leverage DX* but could take advantage of what RTX IO offers so it'll probably happen if it doesn't already.

Vulkan is an "allways in development" project and that technology is very interesting (even in flight sims), so surely it will come at any time and on steroids.

PD: PS5 will use vulkan or not?
