DonH Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 I am so frustrated, Am a dedicated/longtime/DCS customer. Will continue to be. Point of this post: I love and want to fly/fight the Viper online but spend most time online flight/fights/time/effort Defending against SAM. I get it: limited development resource and time - but - what I don't get is why any business would sell a Air Combat Sim product that does not deliver the overall capability of the model the Sim claims to represent. Many other DCS modules were supplied with the like capabilities. I ask: Is/are there a reason(s) that the DCS F-16 module can not have a equivalent level of 'completeness'? donh/Asp
deadpool Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 There are at the moment multiple models in the pipeline by ED, the decision has been made to focus on the model which came out earlier, the FA18. However as ED likes to emphasize: F16 still gets upgrades as promised. TPod recently got an upgrade. We might get Mavericks and/or HARMs in HAS mode potentially as soon as this Septembers update. Don't get me wrong, I am as frustrated as you are. But you either accept the state it's in, or you play something else. That's what it boils down to. I don't think that posting on these forums here will have any effect whatsoever, so I try to restrict myself to potentially helping people out and/or occasionally posting a defect or two. Love it, Change it, Leave it. Those are the three choices :-) Lincoln said: “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." DonH Posted September 5, 2020 Author Posted September 5, 2020 Regardless of your 'opinion' My question(s) stand(s).
BuzzU Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 EA takes a lot of patience. If you're getting frustrated it's best to fly another plane until the Viper is more complete. Buzz
dundun92 Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 The reason is EA. Unfortunately if you want a feature complete Viper, you will have to wait till it is out of EA. And the reason other modules are more complete is that theyve been around far longer to be worked on. Eagle Enthusiast, Fresco Fan. Patiently waiting for the F-15E. Clicky F-15C when? We have two new devs on the viper team, and we are currently testing Mavericks and Harm internally. So hopefully you will all see progress soon. The simple answer is it is not always possible to have all features ready at an early stage, it takes dev time to integrate systems into the module. BuzzU Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 BIGNEWY................What stage is the FM at now? Buzz
Fri13 Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 Only real solution is to really heavily stress to people that most should never invest their time to Early Access modules in the first or second year... So maybe 1/4-3/4 part of the Early Access should be only for a dedicated bug reports, testers and those who are not getting annoyed by bugs and missing features and how the module can break up middle of the Early Access phase. One easier fix for this is to disallow/discourage all marketing from the Open Beta version of the DCS, and only officially support the Stable branch, where the servers and majority of the players should be staying. Early Access is nice thing, but it shouldn't be expected as to be "I wanted the module with discount, and I want it to be ready in 3-6 months from the release!". If someone wants to assist ED by investing money for the Early Access phase, it is all OK but just wait if patience is not expected.... What comes for DCS World right now, it feels like it is going through a serious redesigns and development so big parts are being worked on and it is not fast.... i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
Glide Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 Welcome to the war. I do believe even with full capability you will spend a good deal of time dodging SAM's. That's why I usually fly low until I have to strike. If the full IADS module comes along, I bet you will have a whole new level of fun trying to penetrate those threat circles no matter what model you are in.
fudabidu Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 If you've been a DCS customer for 6 years you should know about early access and how long development can take. The Viper was VERY clearly released as an early access / work in progress module. IIRC ED even stated they'd be focusing on the Hornet first, so they can develop new tech and eventually port it to the Viper where applicable. Hornet is still WIP after more than 2 years btw. If you expect a fully developed DCS module (or any other piece of software), don't buy into early access. It's 2020 and this should be common sense by now.
