Jakes Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 Hi everyone. Fairly new to DCS and the Hornet, After searching as best I could, I can't seem to figure this one out. When I activate the HMD it centers just below the HUD(See image). Is it not supposed to center with the HUD and is there any way to adjust this? It feels off when I look around. I have tried raising the camera, but then can't read the HUD. Any help would be appreciated! This happens with or without Head-tracking enabled so it's not caused by that as far as I can tell. Bonus question... is there anyway to make the HMD more readable? Boost the size/font? Any landing that doesn't require the jaws of life....is a good landing...
randomTOTEN Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 By default the eyeline is tilted downwards to place the DDI's within the boundaries of common computer monitors. What you're judging as "straight ahead" is actually pointed downwards be several degrees, the equivalent of looking slightly down instead of directly level (eyeline on the horizon). This is why the HMD cross is below the HUD. The solution is to tilt the eyeline upwards (pan upwards), but then you will probably loose visibility of the DDI's. But the HMD cross will be in the center of the HUD. I use TrackIR, and I physically tilt my head downwards to approximately match the default eyeline. I then set this position as zero, and when I raise my head to approximately level, the HMD cross position is correct. This can be adjusted for your user TrackIR curves.
Tholozor Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 What you can do, is that instead of raising the camera up, tilt your head back until the cross centered where you want it in the HUD, and use Save Cockpit Angles (RAlt + Num0) to make it your new default. Bunny Clark Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 For some reason the default head position seems to be looking a lot lower in the Hornet than it is in many other modules, including the Viper. I'm not sure why this is, and when I spend time in the Viper or Mirage and then come back to the Hornet, it takes some getting used to. To clarify what everyone is saying relative to your question: the issue isn't so much that the JHMCS display is not centered properly, but that the entire view is biased downward into the pit. dorianR666 Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 is there any way to adjust this? as others explained, its because the default view is the pilot looking down. you can modify the default view: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=211116 CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600X GPU: AMD RX 580
Jakes Posted September 6, 2020 Author Posted September 6, 2020 Thanks everyone! Got it looking and working beautifully now. Set the default view up to line up the Center with my HUD and it looks awesome. And works beautifully when I activate my head-tracking!
