Starting in the air is fine for quick missions or training. But in a campaign I would expect to fly full missions unless it’s worked into the storyline. Some campaigns do that pretty well.

SH2 is the only DLC campaign I’ve seen that skips the startup. The M-2000C Red Flag does a good job working chatter and briefings into the ramp start.

BD gets it

It’s hilarious that people in other sims clamor for this feature and yet DCS players cheat and skip it.

Huh, his answer is odd, considering I've never seen my wingman move on a carrier deck until I do?

Now other flights, yes... you'd better be as fast as the auto start sequence it starting cold or that strike flight you're supposed to be escorting will leave you in a heartbeat!

suppose its up to the mission designer on how he does it, i know that in one of the raven missions your have to wait till your wing man taxis before you since you have to take off after him

So I’m doing Operation Saber Thrust. And again. Why can’t we just have a cold start?! Why? Is there something wrong with the AI in this game that they can’t do a carrier taxi and takeoff?

Players who don’t want to do the startup can always skip it with the Auto start. I’ve never seen DCS campaigns with hot starts until I got the Hornet.

And this was an awesome mission start too, but spoiled by spawning in with the aircraft running instead of being able to start it up at sunset. Denied!

To be fair to Raven One,the wingmen aren’t dcs wingmen, but a separate flight of one, scripted to behave like your wingman. This gives the mission designer much greater control of things like weapon employment etc... but does mean there are some limits that need to be accommodated to make sure triggers work etc,..
