WRAITH Posted September 9, 2020 Posted September 9, 2020 (edited) Hey fellas, has anyone ever tried this to get 32bit apps to work on 64bit OS........ as I need some help ................ Edited September 9, 2020 by WRAITH
SkateZilla Posted September 9, 2020 Posted September 9, 2020 32 Bit Applications should work w/o problems on Windows 10 regardless, only difference is they will be installed in the x86 (32bit) program folder and limited to 32-bit memory addresses. Software that's 32-bit w/ 32bit device drivers on the other hand would be an issue. But what program are you talking about? I'm assuming you're not concerned about DCS. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1

Some old 32bit Apps/Software and old sims but no luck. Well same as usual was hoping that there would be a break through with that old problem. A while back I tried to run some apps via "32-bit emulation" Shell extension programs hoping to keep drivers and app intact ....... https://stackoverflow.com/questions/13747836/using-32-bit-shell-extensions-in-windows-7-64-bit No luck........... frustrating that it can not be done. So that we can be able to run old sims/programs in a new OS in some kind of allowed frame work. But I think Skate is correct just Not going to work  Edited September 10, 2020 by WRAITH

It's probably more function of age and not so much 32 vs 64 bit. Older programs were allowed to make all kinds of direct calls to the hardware, for example. So the older it its, the less likelihood of success. And there isn't a good solution since the market for running very old software is, well, almost non-existent. Apple on the other hand will have to go through another round of architecture change a la emulators. PowerPC to Intel, and now Intel to Apple Silicon in a year or two. I feel so bad for the devs. Yikes. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
reece146 Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 It'll probably run fine on a VM if you install the old OS to go with it. I have an old Windows 2000 VM I keep around for reading the factory service manuals for one of my hobby vehicles. It kind of works on Win10 but really works in properly in the Win2K VM. Ancient versions of flash and other adobe crapware... For free VM software, Virtualbox on Windows is adequate, libvirtd on Linux will run anything you throw at it but faster and smoother, etc. HTH
SkateZilla Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 sounds like you are trying to run 16-Bit on a 64 bit O/S, which definately isnt supported anymore outside of VM Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs

WRAITH Posted September 11, 2020 Author Posted September 11, 2020 Hi thanks for VM confirmation, I have been speaking with an I.T computer science friend he suggest the same thing but I have never installed Microsoft Virtual Machine other than in past using emulators......... can anyone suggest an easy approach to how to install it without it mucking up my current OS install? - Thanks

VMWare used to give free licenses for VM Workstation (they still may). There's VirtualBox from, well I guess Oracle. VirtualBox even comes with a few MSDOS flavors. And recent windows 10 upgrade gave the same capability as previously posted.
