Just curious. Does a 4K monitor make a big difference in DCS as far as spotting distant aircraft sooner than with an FHD monitor? I've been thinking about upgrading.

Much worse as the pixels are smaller.

Many discussions about the technology used and how to have a good balance at all resolutions without cheating with spotting etc.

If you go 4K you need a large screen / tv etc. Otherwise the pixels will not be seen as soon as 1080p (Large pixels).

I use a 50" 4k tv. Running at that resolution makes spotting aircraft much harder. I tested it a while ago scaling up lower resolution. 1080p looked terrible (on my 4k tv) however I could spot aircraft at about 40km, but it was just a black dot. 1440p scaled up ok for everything that was close but distant buildings looked fuzzy. I could spot aircraft at about 25-30km. Running at my native 4k resolution everything does look stunning, the scenery even at distance looks incredible. However I can only see aircraft at about 10-15km. Dogfighting with another fighter using trackir its much harder to spot your enemy. On the flip side if you do get your eyes on them and get into a proper chasing dogfight the detail is impressive. I would recommend a 4k tv over 40" for DCS anything smaller get a 1440p monitor.

I have a 4k monitor, and I use labels. I also don't use radar much. I put my missiles in bore mode and fly them right up the pipe. I'm having a ton of fun!

Thanks for the input. I was under the impression originally that 4K would make spotting easier but I guess not. I'm using a 24 inch 1080p monitor.

Treat yourself! With those modules, you deserve it.

Treat himself to what? It seems he has the best choice now for spotting planes.

If you have a card to drive 4k upgrade to a HP Reverb G2 instead of the 4k monitor. (I used both VR and 4k monitor).

Hey, don’t want to hijack the thread but can anyone say something about Asus ROG Swift PG43UQ 43inch vs Samsung Odyssey G9 C49G94T Curved 49 Inch? Im upgrading but don’t know wich way to go. Feeling is 43 inch 4K gives me more space top to bottom wich I like. VR is not an option.
