dburne Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 That's for sure; also the slightly lower resolution vs reverb g2 could give better fps for an almost unnoticeable difference in visual quality. That's the only reason I'm still undecided. That may be, however keep in mind the Link connection performs compressing and decompressing before the image is displayed, whereas a direct PC connection like with the Reverb does not. So there is a little more overhead there with the Link connection on Quest or Quest 2. Now I have run DCS on my original Quest with Link and was surprised how good it actually ran. But using my native Rift S was a little better and a much more comfortable headset. Bob_Bushman Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 (edited) One thing to be aware when reading reviews and current tests about the quest 2 link feature. Is that until after launch, the link feature is the very same as for the original quest, so they only render at 32fps(?), interpolate on the HMD snapdragon at the quest 1 resolution. So testers with the quest 2 are seeing a downsampled image and reports on that. Naturally that should be taken into account for when comparing it with the Rift s, or tethered sets. Ala12Rv-Tundra Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Being acv1 user and current rift s, I find weird they decide against the rift series in order to support standalone devices. They might consider the quest family much more profitable. Time to move on to other brands I guess. i5 8400 | 32 Gb RAM | RTX 2080Ti | Virpil Mongoose T-50 base w/ Warthog & Hornet sticks | Warthog throttle | Cougar throttle USB | Orion 2 throttle base w/ Viper & Hornet grips| VKB T-Rudder Mk IV | Oculus Rift S | Buddy-Fox A-10 UFC | 2x TM MFDs & 1x WW DDI | 2x Bass shakers | SIMple SIMpit chair | WW TakeOff panel | Andre JetSeat | WW Hornet UFC | WW Viper ICP FC3 - Warthog - F-5E - Harrier - NTTR - Hornet - Tomcat - Huey - Viper - C-101 - PG - Hip - SuperCarrier - Syria - Warthog II - Hind - South Atlantic - Sinai - Strike Eagle - Phantom - Mirage F1 - Afghanistan - Irak

The new Quest 2 will perform as a PCVR headset, near 2k per eye at 90 Hz with the optic link cable. Intel Core i7 6700K @ 4.5GHz. Asus-Z170-PRO MB CORSAIR H105 HYDRO CPU COOLER. Keep in mind though it is compressing and decompressing streams of data constantly, so while it is good a native PC-VR headset would be better overall. I am sure Oculus will continue to improve Link though. I myself have Reverb G2 on order and hoping it fills the bill for me. I don't care for Oculus requiring a Facebook account to tie in to use their new Quest 2.
