Beside black demo skin and olive drab/sand one are there any other skins for Ka-50 in DCS:BS?!

I ask because I never saw any other paintscheme for this helo IRL.

I saw it mentioned in a thread somewhere that custom skins won't auto-download? I find this a bit troubling... that was one thing that I really felt was missing in Lock On. Don't forget that this is a very successful feature in other sims (both flight and racing). Manually downloading skins seems reasonable in theory, but it's usually a messy solution and not everyone will be seeing the same thing. I understand it may be a problem that they are super-high resolution skins. How big, when compressed, are the BS skins?

If skins are too large to be auto-downloadable, are there any plans for custom squadron insignia, tail numbers, etc? That would allow enough customization for general use. It would allow any country to be represented easily, too.

Thanks! BS is shaping up to be an incredible sim - please don't dismiss customization, it's a very large factor in sims today (imo!).

For future releases, anything can be said to be "in the cards." What actually makes it in though, is another question. :)

For now, the current game engine has already undergone a lot of change that will allow deeper code access and customization through .lua files than before. ED intends to continue this trend in the future.

In the longer term, ED is developing a new game engine. We can't speculate about what specific capabilities and customization options it will offer, but it's probably safe to assume that it will be greater than the current engine.

A Ka-50 CDDS skin file weights in at about 6-9 MB. It will not be "shared" in multiplayer. As in LO, you can assign tail numbers to aircraft through the ME.

2048x2048@16bit or 1024x1024@32bit?

I think some kind of compression may help. For example, pak the tga/bmp file to zip format and let the engine directly access it (like what Quake/DOOM3 engine do)so that automatic skin download may not be too much payload.

How?

I'd like one order of a Ka-50 with a cheetah skin. Really. I love cheetahs, man. Such exotically gorgeous creatures - like the Ka-50. Yeah, I used to hate the Ka-50 but, dang it, it grew on me and didn't realize it until it's too late - I'm hooked. :D

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Today it isn't problem (with file size, DCS will be sold rather in Western World where internet speeds are much faster than Third World). In Counter-Strike this feature is fantastic, maximum some minutes longer loading won't be a trouble :P

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

Another option is to use converted lower res skins for multiplayer. This system works very will in the racing simulator Live for Speed. You can have manually downloaded 2048 res skins for high-fidelity, but all auto-downloaded skins will be in 1024. Initially this was 512, but it was upgraded a while ago as internet speeds got greater. This covers both bases - everyone will see the all the skins once they've trickled in (downloads whilst playing), but higher res skins can always be downloaded in their place.

@leafer: I hope ED releases the PSDs.... they're incredibly detailed as base so a pattern like that would be pretty fun for somebody else to do :)

You had me at PSDs...? heh what is that like LSDs but trippier? :D
