dooom Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 Hey all, I replaced my SSD drive for DCS to a Samsung 870 QVO 1 TB. I had my old 256 850 EVO on a SATA 6Gbps and am using it for some work stuff now... i only had a SATA 3 open on the MOBO so that is what DCS is hooked to now. Is it worth swapping the SATA ports for those SSD so DCS is on the SATA III/6? Does it really matter? I noticed some stuttering over SYria last night but was thinking that was more of a SYria issue than a SATA one. THoughts? norbot Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 (edited) In theory, there should be a difference (300 MB/s vs. 600 MB/s). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA#3.0 Can't say anything about Syria. After the Normandy map I didn't feel the need for another map from Ugra Media. Maybe increasing the preload-radius could help. Don't think SATA is your problem, but I don't know what your hardware consists of. Edited October 5, 2020 by norbot
BitMaster Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 Sata III 1-6 are all equal on Intel chipsets. If your board only has 4 Intel Sata Ports and 2 others from another vendor ( like ASmedia, Broadcom, etc. ) then it might be wise to change the ports as you said. Chexck your manual, if it says 6 Intel Sata III ports then it's all good as they are all created equal. If it says, 4x Intel + 2x ASmedia...then you might wanna put the work stuff on the 3rd party vendor and hook up DCS on the Intel port. Usually, the color on the ports will tell you what I said, if all 6 are the same color, likely all Intel, if 4 are one color and another 2 are in a different color, well then,...as I said, maybe not what you want even if the manual says the 2 ports from XYZ vendor are also Sata III spec, they are usually measurably slower than your native Intel ports. SATA II = 3Gb/s SATA III = 6Gb/s Some people call SATA II as SATA 3 because it's 3Gb/s. Some people call SATA III as SATA 3 of course. And some people think SATA 6 is different than SATA III... terminology is a mess. Even manufacturers make it confusing by using different term for same thing. If you're contemplating between SATA III and SATA 6Gb/s, there is no difference. Better Smoke - Better Trees Caucasus - Better Trees Syria - Better Trees Mariana - Clear Canopy Glass
