I only have experience simming the apache and apache longbow--but I can guarantee that the KA-50 will become my favorite--just as the Su-25T became my favorite fixed wing aircraft! Basically, anything with advanced flight model is my new favorite :)

I think it's gotta be the Tiger for me aswell.

Although I'm a proper heli-nut and therefore pretty much love anything with a rotor.

There are just three things about the Tiger that make it special to my eyes.

First it's the state of the art gunship on the planet.

It basicaly combines the agility and power of the Blackshark ( maybe it even surpases it on the agility part ) with the high fidelity avionics and weapons phalanx of the west.

Secondly it's probably the only gunship that has a sort of grace to it, but can look rather brute in the right configuration.

Third is the multyrole approach.

It's the only modern gs with a really high versatility, because it was designed that way and isn't as much a child of the cold war as the Apache or Blackshark are.

Although a bit old, this one is my favourite

Unfortunately it couldn’t fly (no tail rotor or twin rotor) – it’s clear that Da Vinci lived before Newton :smilewink:

i like hind too, have you played Di-Hind 1996?? nice old sim? Mission is nice, load, unload troops, rescue, destroy etc.... will be great to add one flyable hind to DCS.

Yeah, that game from DiD was one of my favorites.

Best feature: Out of missiles? Land on a save place and rearm from the cargo. :megalol:

Yes, I played that, though I was a big noob back then, I played with minimum realism. :) If you're looking for flyable Hind, you may want to keep an eye on Enemy Engaged: Commanche Hokum, there's a Hind addon in the works for it.

Btw, Feuerfalke, Hind was made by DI (Digital Integration), not DID (Digital Image Design, made TFX/EF2000/TAW).

Sorry mixed the two companies up. Thanks for correction.

Mi-24 "Hind"! Hind allows for additional dimension to helicopter missions. Not only you can fly and blow stuff up with rocket pods, bombs, air fuel bombs etc but you can also deliver and extract troops, some supplies and evacuate wounded - all by the same helicopter. Just remember that the one of the main reasons "Apache" came to be was to provide counter measure to "Hind".

Mi-24 is ultra flexible airborne weapon platform capable of a multitude of heliborne missions. Interesting fact: in Iraq, Polish "Hinds" operated side by side with "Apaches" (and other helis) in 2007 and were based at Camp Echo... ;-)

The Apache was designed to fill an anti-armor role and provide increased capability over the Cobra. I don't see how that had anything to do with the Hind. Don't get me wrong, I love the Hind, too, but I don't see how it had anything to do with the creation of the Apache.

Exactly, not to mention that the HIND itself may be considerate a ripoff of American concept - the old Sikorsky Blackhawk helicopter.

Its "multipurpose" is not really and advantage, since it was designed around an Mi-8 power system it was never designed to be nimble, and flown aggressively - till the Mi-35 which have few subsystems of Mi-28. The truth is - the MH-60L DAP can carry more weapons, and more troops, further, and is more maneuverable. That "wing" thing on HIND is cumbersome everywhere except forward flight.

I think that's pushing it, the S-67 Black Hawk and Mi-24 were developed about at the same time (the S-67 had first flight in 1970, the Mi-24 in 1969. But both obviously starting design years earlier).

I have a hard time seeing how the Mi-24 can be a rip-off of the S-67, even though they both turned out to be relatively similar. But if you can name some sources which explains how the Mi-24 design was influenced by the S-67 then I would surely be very interested to know about them!

It is not a fact, and it may be far from truth, but there is almost two years of difference after Sikorsky started working on S-66 and S-67 (1964), and Mill started their work on V-24 (1966). Both were build on exactly the same concept - use as much parts from existing transport helicopter as possible, build a narrow fuselage, with tandem cockpit and area for small number of troops, and have wings for unloading the main rotor in forward flight, and armament. It was a time when KGB and CIA flourished... so I wouldn't be surprised if the concept was "borrowed" in not really legal way ;)

At least Americans got their self into an conflict where concepts of true attack helicopters (Cobras) and gunships (Huey's and everything else that could carry rockets and machine guns) were tested, and never came back to the S-67 idea. Unfortunately the Soviets couldn't at the time test their concepts and were stuck with the Hind, that really wasn't an attack helicopter, nor an transport. Not to mention, that most of those helicopters still today can't fly or fight at night. The only time when they could prove their worth were Iraq - Iran conflict, where the Hinds and SeaCobras fought each other (using mostly anti tank - wire guided missiles) although the outcome was somewhat a tie (or 10:1 for Iran - by their books ;) ), Iran apparently never really cared about those fights and never armed Cobras with a-a armament, that was at their disposal at the time.

Mi-24 is a good looking aircraft, but nothing more. Cobras were always more capable in combat - since the AH-1T, Cobras became all-weather helicopters, while the Mi-24 have to wait almost until today (Mi-35, South African SuperHinds, and other modern modernizations), everything else was a better troops transport. Not really my favored... it is really low on my list.

I thought it was designed for that (or maybe it was the only working combat technique with this construction) - that it flies and attacks as a fixed wing aircraft (fly forward towards the target, unleash missiles or drop bombs, then turn away or fly over), but it takes off and lands like a helicopter. A VTOL SU-25. :)
