Meyomyx Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 I'm not 100% sure this is a bug but These GBU 38's were ready. A target was designated and displayed green. Then I decided to tweak the target point. From then on, the Profile page shows green but all the stations show safe. I can't seem to find any way to change this. They're permanently stuck in "safe" mode but ready. I made no attempt to release the weapons so it isn't a "quick pickle". The track file would be too big ....
Emmy Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 Maneuver a little. GBU-38s and 31s can actually “go to sleep” if you fly straight and level too long (especially if you use autopilot.) Just turn five degrees one way and then back and they should go green RDY again. Meyomyx Posted October 11, 2020 Author Posted October 11, 2020 Thanks for responding! I tried this (by default) and after trying to wake them up, I turned 180 degrees to re-attack the target (when the images were taken). I also tried re-loading the weapons.
Emmy Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 Are you selecting your weapon profile via DMS Left/Right with HUD as SOI or are you just pressing the OSBs next to the weapons on the DSMS? Meyomyx Posted October 11, 2020 Author Posted October 11, 2020 (edited) OSB’s .... or by selecting the profile “on”, all 4 display white in the status page. I cycled through the master modes as well. By the look of it, I could have tried an airborne realignment of the INS although I'm not sure what would have made this necessary. I'll keep experimenting Edited October 11, 2020 by Meyomyx
Emmy Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 Try selecting the 38s as a profile via DMS instead and see what you get. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] http://www.476vfightergroup.com/content.php High Quality Aviation Photography For Personal Enjoyment And Editorial Use. www.crosswindimages.com
Frederf Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 It shouldn't matter how the weapons are selected or even if they are selected). The ALN RDY is independent of those factors. JDAM relies on a transfer alignment which depends on the quality of the airplane's alignment. Make sure that you do a full to 0.8 alignment on the ground and that EAC switch will stay on by itself. A less than full quality alignment might prevent a good transfer alignment. If you can replicate this please make a track showing the DSMS page throughout takeoff and transit so it can be seen if the transfer alignment status changes at any point.
Scubamurph Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 If it happens just waggle your wings. That will clear them back to RDY and green.
Padonis Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 For me, sometimes GBU-38 goes into the "Aborted" state. I can't go back to normal. What is a cause of it?
Ziptie Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 For me, sometimes GBU-38 goes into the "Aborted" state. I can't go back to normal. What is a cause of it? Could be too short of a depress, on the weapon release (pickle) button when attempting to employ a 38. It requires a depress and hold momentarily. Could this be what you've done? Padonis Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 Possible. Is there a way to fix this on the fly?
Frederf Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 Aborted? No. The battery in the bomb is dead.
Ziptie Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 Possible. Is there a way to fix this on the fly? Only way to get it off the aircraft at that point is to jettison the failed station. You can jettison in an armed mode, or safe - I’ve managed to jettison stores and actually shack targets before - but it’s a lottery ticket kind of deal.
