CM802AKG doing loopings and then crash in sea or ground

Today, I'm trying to use the CM802AKG in DIRECT mode. I designated a target with the targeting pod and pushed the release button when the missile was ready to be released.

The missile just does loopings and then crashes.

Is there anything specific to do that I missed.

FYI, I'm following Chuck's guides step by step...

Add:

- same for COO mode, but this time it's doing circles in horizontal plane instead of looping

- for Man In the Loop, it works fine

The AKG will not track to its target without MITL so terminal guidance by the pilot is required.

Then, what the DIRECT and COO modes for. I thought only MAN mode required a data link pod and terminal guidance.

direct is a quick designation mode, COO is to input coords from a 9-line or other source. manual is to setup a super stealthy approach and giggle as it flies the waypoints.

thanks, and do all (DIRECT and COO) need data link pod and manual terminal guidance? Chuck's guide doesn't say so.

Yes, all modes of the AKG need the datalink pod for terminal guidance.

In freeflight I still didn't manage to get COO working. With the datalink pod the missile is not flying circles anymore but it just flies straight after launch and doesn't follow the waypoints.

I created the waypoints on the F10 map (multiplayer server) and they were loaded into the plane (waypoints 30 and 31 and target waypoint 36). The missile could be controlled via datalink. So this looked more like direct mode to me. Anything else to consider or is COO bugged ?

If you want the missile to follow RP's you must use MAN mode. WPT36 (PP1) will be ignored in this mode. The seeker will turn on 2nm from wpt31.

DIRECT - Basically TOO mode. Missile flies to SPI (WPT40). Seeker activates 20nm (I think, forget exactly) before reaching.

COO - Basically PP mode. You choose WPT 36, 37, 38, or 39. Missile flies there and activates seeker 20nm before reaching. WPT40 is ignored

MAN - Missile will follow waypoints 30-35 to the last one set (31 in your case). Seeker activates 2nm before reaching the last waypoint in sequence.

When using MAN, you don't want last waypoint on the target, as 2nm is too close. Instead, the last waypoint should further back and placed in such a way that the course it takes from the previous waypoint to the last one points the missile at the target.

Hope this helps.

Yes, in the meantime I used COO mode as pre-planned, thanks !

If you're using the target pod to designate a target (=set WP40), is it possible to slave the missile to the target and launch from less than 20 nm (as for the C701) ?
