Hawkeye91 Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Can’t seem to find it in the manual anywhere, but is hostile area an actual “area” or just another fix? Also what is point to point? And how’s it used?
Spiceman Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Hostile Area is just another waypoint. It does have a few special uses. It is not available as a waypoint for Destination steering, but it is the waypoint used for a Datalink INS update, and it’s used in TARPS steering. So it doesn’t really have a use in DCS. if I remember right, and it’s not really described in the NATOPS, the PT To PT function allowed the placement or modification of a waypoint position from another waypoint. So you’d hook a waypoint, enter range and bearing and then press the function button for the “other” waypoint and it would place it at that relative range and bearing. Something along those lines... it’s been a while. 1 Former USN Avionics Tech VF-41 86-90, 93-95 VF-101 90-93 Heatblur Tomcat SME I9-9900K | Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Ultra | 32GB DDR4 3200 | Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe | RTX 2070 Super | TM Throttle | VPC Warbird Base TM F-18 Stick

bonesvf103 Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Point to point is not functional yet last I checked. sublime Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 Ive found HA and a couple of the navigation WPs to not show on radar or as a flyable to wp however I quickly learned as a rio to ask for wp coords in briefing or to write down even though the 14 only has 3 why? first you can 'recycle' those 3 endlessly by putting in new coords. 2nd these are IME the WPs that are really useful as they show as marked WPs etc FP, IP, ST, WP 1-3, Home Base, and I think maybe thats it... I could be misremembering but... I doubt it. the Hostile area, and a couple of other ones are more for real life stuff IME also you can use these for anything. ST doesnt have to be a target. its just a waypoint marker.
AvroLanc Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 You can also add a 'datalink WP', using the ME. If you add 'DLST', 'DLFP', 'DLWP'(1,2,3?) to the special tab in the ME, same way as normal ST, FP etc. I may be misremembering the exact syntax though. These represent WP's that could be sent IRL from the AWACS over the Link 4 network. They can't be directly navigated to, but can be TID hooked etc. They can be used as additional markers atm, I would love to see a GUI in MP where these could be sent real time, along with commands to intercept or attack a track.
QuiGon Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 I use the HA waypoint to increase situational awareness, as I often put it on an enemy long range SAM position or an enemy airbase that is close to my area of operations.
