Been following the other recent threads about VR FPS loss, and I also just found this thread. https://forums.eagle.ru/forum/englis...tacview-enable

I've experienced the same poor frame rates after that last big Hornet update a few weeks ago. My temporary solution, when nothing else worked, was to deleted my Saved Games folder and start again. That worked and all my low FPS issues cleared up. I flew around for several days completely fine until I realized TacView wasn't recording (was removed/not linked). I ended up installing TacView again and once it was installed my FPS issues came back, if I remember the timeline right, but it seems to fit.

I never knew about this issue in the past, but reading my latest dcs.log gave me an idea to research. Maybe this is normal? I just grabbed one random section of the log to paste:

2020-11-23 22:42:05.040 INFO TACVIEW.DLL: During the last 61.4s an average of 65 units objects and 3 ballistic objects have been active per frame

2020-11-23 22:42:05.040 INFO TACVIEW.DLL: The average frame rate of 34.6fps would have been 39.3fps if the flight data recorder was disabled

2020-11-23 22:42:05.040 INFO TACVIEW.DLL: DCS World simulation is taking 87.8% of CPU

2020-11-23 22:42:05.040 INFO TACVIEW.DLL: DCS GetWorldObjects is taking 12.0% of CPU

2020-11-23 22:42:05.040 INFO TACVIEW.DLL: Tacview recorder is taking 0.1% of CPU

My specs: i5-9600K @ 5.1 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 2080 Ti, Rift S. I launch VR/DCS with Oculus Tray Tool. PD in-game at 0.5, and 1.4 - 1.6 in OTT (been playing with settings). Also been thru various optimization guides here, and have tried/confirmed settings recommended in the other current VR and FPS performance issues threads. Also tried adjusting DCS graphics settings, but nothing made a difference.

I've always had a super smooth experience in VR up until recently. My VR stays locked 90% of the time at 40 FPS, but will run 80 in sparse areas like NTTR in the middle of nowhere. That clip of the log, which I'll attach, was from the Just Dogfight server (Caucasus) in a 1v1 area. It normally runs 40 FPS all the time, but has been consistently dropping down to 20-22 lately. I didn't make any PC or DCS changes at all before that one DCS OB update. Performance was fine, did the update, then performance got terrible with no changes made anywhere.

Just curious what you all think; I'm not good with all of this, so it may be a wild goose chase! Thanks!

Edit: Forgot to say I learned the previous TacView issues only last night, so I haven't been able to test it w/o TacView installed/running. Gonna do that today. Will report back if I notice any change!

Edit2: Been able to play a bit on JDF and it's much smoother, though not as good as it had been. Also, takes foreeeever to load/change slots.

  • CL30 changed the title to VR FPS loss due to TacView again?

My post here never got any traction, but I wanted to post back that I'm still running smoothly after disabling the TacView export.

Additionally, I may have helped someone in the PC Hardware section as well.  His issue sounded very similar to mine.  After I posted my problems and resolution, he said he tried the same and got a 20-30 FPS boost.

Hope it helps someone!

For sure, it helps. Thank you for your feedback. 👍

You bet.

Is there anyway this can be improved though?  I've never had a problem with it (having to disable exporting) until recently, as described.  I find a lot of value in watching TacView replays, so having to turn it off sucks.  Thanks, Flappie.  🙂

I'll ask Vyrtuoz to come take a look.

Awesome, thanks!

I am sorry you are experiencing such frame rate loss while Tacview recorder is active.

The problem comes from the Lua API provided by DCS World which is used by Tacview to know where each object is. This API is slow proportionally to the number of objects on the battlefield.

While this is not a problem while playing campaigns and on one screen, with bigger online missions (thousands active objects) and VR, this problem can have significative impact on the frame rate and easily make you drop under the “magic” 45 fps for example.

I am going to see with ED if this could be improved.

If you still want to record, with Tacview 1.8.5, you could from the options->special menu, select to record only your aircraft during online flights, so you can still check performances data without hurting the frame rate. Also, you can still record the whole mission data after the flight, by playing back in the track player of DCS world.

Meanwhile could you reproduce the problem, and share your dcs.log file? This will help me to convince ED that something should be done on that matter.

Good info, thanks for the reply!  I'll see if I can re-create something here in the coming days.  With family arriving soon for the holidays, I won't have much available time.

One other thought, I had the same stuttering and poor FPS even on a single-player mission I made.  Me vs one or two other planes, no other objects in the map.  But yes, I'll get you some more info/logs/feedback when I get a chance.  Thanks, Vyrtuoz!
