AI Mig 21 drops flares when ASO-2 pod is not loaded

I think this is an ED level AI issue - the Viggen does the same thing without its KB pod AFAIK.

 

A lot of AI aircraft will also only dispense 2 flares in each burst, and IIRC didn't take care as to where dispensers actually are.

This is still a problem in 2024. in 2 separate missions I've put in AI MiG-21 flights. I did not load countermeasures for these aircraft as the historical situation did not use them. In both missions I could visually see the AI MiG21's dropping flares as an F4 got around behind them. The only way I've been able to have them not use flares is if I put "DO not use" under the actions and options tab for the unit. 

 

Please fix.

Oh I came back just now to report this again and guess who else is here? 2020 me. @Dscross you're lucky if they are obeying the "Chaff-Flare" usage, that is not working for me as they still drop flares with this option selected.

There's an open ticket on ED's tracker.  We are patiently waiting for support as well.

It's only partially working. Sometimes they're spamming, sometimes they don't. Still trying to tune the mission, but this bug is making things take way longer than it should. Oh well, hopefully I'll get he mission up in the user files in the next few days.

I wonder if a stopgap could be to remove the lines that in the Lua file declares the number of chaff and flares associated to the object. This only could be done and tested by the developers.

If it works, an additional entry for an “IA 21bis with ASO-2” (only flares) and another for an “IA 21bis with the POMIG Yugoslavian Pod” (the one in the game, not adopted IRL) could be declared in the sim.
