BoNidle Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 (edited) "Five by Five" was flown by Colonel Joe Laughlin, C.O. of the 362nd Fighter Group, 9th Air Force, between August 1944 and the end of the war. Laughlin had three aerial victories and was credited with sinking a German Light Cruiser in Brest harbour on the 25th August 1944. He was described as being "5 feet tall and 5 feet wide" hence the aircrafts name. It's always been a favourite of mine and I have skinned it twice before for "IL2:46" and "IL2 Great Battles: Battle of Bodenplatte"....but the check nose was a lot easier to do on this DCS version! The swastika kills are reversed deliberately to match to actual aircraft as are the misaligned serial numbers in the data block. UPDATED; I have redone this aircraft with new roughmets, repositoning the front cowl panel lines on the cowling which was in the wrong place (yet is in the correct place on the default skin?), along with repositioning and redrawing the rivets and catches to match the normal map and make it more accurate to the real aircraft. This also meant removing a large number of excess rivets and catches. There are far too many rivets on the cowling. The P-47 really needs a new accurate normal map. I have also replaced the maintenance stencils to the correct font. Yellow surrounds have been added to the guns as I managed to find a decent photo and saw they were there afterall. I have redrawn the noseart. And the moving spinner is painted now!! I am submitting "5 x 5" in the livery competition but I am not sure it will be accepted as I can only save as a BC7 DDS and not a DXT5. When I tried the old Nvidia converter to save it as a DXT5 it kept corrupting the rear fuselage rough met. Why? Don't know. Just uploaded it to User Files so it should be up soon. Cheers, Bo. VH-Rock Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 Man that's killer! Nice work! Virtual Horsemen - Right Wing (P-51) - 2008... Virtual Ultimate Fighters - Lead (P-47) - 2020...
catchforusthefoxes Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 I've tried to figure this out as well, i think in the current state there is no way to paint the spinning prop. We'll have to wait for the official template from ED i suppose
