Hi all noob question just got the G2 and tryinbg to figure out how to run it has been a nightmare. First of all even though I've removed DCS from Oculus Home it still wants to run OH alongside Steam and WMR I've spent three days following every guide I can. all of them using Nvidia cards and I have a radeon 5700XT. Steam VR seems to pick DCS up ok. But do you have to add it in properly? Very confusing all this! Any help and no trolling greatly appreciated

1 - Uninstall Oculus software

2 - Install WMR (Windows Mixed Reality)

3 - Install Steam VR and opt into the Steam VR beta

4 - Install Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR - https://store.steampowered.com/app/719950/Windows_Mixed_Reality_for_SteamVR/

Then you can run DCS in VR.

You likely can get away with leaving the Oculus software, but since you asked for help, I posted the help I think that's suitable.  Do it as you wish, though.  It's your show.

The oculus software is a pain and wants to run even when the VR application is using Steam VR.  I ditched the Oculus software some time ago when I switched to WMR.  I don't miss it, but I understand peeps don't want to lose their apps they bought with it.  I miss Robo Recall...one of my favorites.

Yeah it pretty much sucks. I love going in Google earth VR and steam has it but it's having issues today and not allowing me to download it. I'm only getting 20fps in DCS even though it definitely looks nicer in the G2 but possibly because OH was running too.. This whole thing has been very confusing

Via task manager, I've stopped the Oculus runtime service.  Don't have an issue with it running in the background.

I' still keep the Oculus software around, (for now).  I've had good success with running Revive, which allows me to run my Oculus library on my G2.

Just change the Oculus service from automatic to manual, then the runtime will not start unless you choose to start it.

That is what I did on my system and no problem at all running my Reverb G2. If I ever want to use my Rift S again I will just start the service.

You can actually leave Oculus installed and force DCS to use SteamVR via cmdline arguments.

Just create a shortcut to dcs.exe and append  --force_enable_VR --force_steam_VR as arguments

That way you can have Oculus and Revive installed, but DCS won't touch it - it normally wants to default to Oculus if the software is installed.

They way I manage oculus software is to go into the services and set both oculus service to disabled. When I want to run oculus, I just put them back to their original settings. One is automatic and the other is manual. Using this technique, I don't need custom dcs shortcuts to force steamVR as DCS will run oculus by default when it is available and will run SteamVR when I have it disabled.
