So I can remember what I'm doing when I jump between planes I made a bunch of illustrated quick reference guides for HOTAS commands for the modules I own. I figured I'd share them in case others can find some use for them as well.

Are all of them already in game? I do not recall being able to open the RDR ATTK Page from the SCS, only the AZ/EL page.

It does not work for me in the store page on the left DDI. For example, A2G mode, flir on the right MDI, store page on the left. If I understand it right, SCS left should call the A2G radar because the store page cannot accept priority, it does not.

It however works on the right DDi if i put the store page on that side (SCS right)

Maybe a bug?

Yep, take your point about the stores page, but it works for everything else.  Maybe the stores page is considered to be different, or it cold be a bug as you said.

Yeah, I cant think of other reason why it behaves ok in the right DDI but not so on the left.

There is something a bit weird here. If stores is on the left and we are in A/A, if a non accepting priority DDI is on the right, then the stores page does go to AZ/EL.  However, if the right DDI is a priority accepting page, e.g. radar, then the stores page on the left won't go to AZ/EL.

It's drawn the way it is on the reference guide for a reason, the "empty" SCS action will only bring up certain pages on certain displays. I don't believe SCS left will ever bring up the RDR page on the left DDI in any master mode, it's exclusive to the right DDI. 

 

I also seem to recall reading some time ago that the Stores page has specific SCS interactions as well, though I can't recall exactly what they were. I think SCS Left with Stores on the Left DDI in A/G toggles between weapon video and the Stores format, or something like that. I could be misremembering. But I think the Stores page has more complex SCS interaction than what we have now.

If you look at the full list of real HOTAS commands the stores is an accepting page with some weapon toggling functions.  There is also some logic that stops you doing certain illogical things, like putting the radar page on the left.  Some things are also master mode specific.

Do you have a resource for a full list of real HOTAS commands? I'm not aware of one.

I'm not sure logic has much to do with it, but the Hornet is definitely designed with the radar on the right DDI being considered "normal"

Not from a postable source.  You can piece bits of it together from various docs that reference bits, but I'm not aware of an available public distributable source that lists everything in one place.  

Illogical from the point of view of the aircraft designers.  I'm not sure they much care what any other fighter does.  The HOTAS will be designed to support certain anticipated actions, like how it assumes you are running the SA/HSI on the AMPCD, even though you may well put one or both of those pages on a DDI on a fairly regular basis.

This looks nice, thanks for making it. I'll probably use it as reference for new people in our squadron.

Also, if I may add to it:
TDC Depress and Hold for RWS/TWS = Spotlight, for A/G Radar = slew designation/EXP selection.
TDC Depress can be used to select several items on the MSI displays, like a computer mouse.
NWS steps through ranked targets or L&S/DT2 in both RWS and TWS.
RAID only enters RAID, not EXP.
Cage/Uncage acts like a toggle for the AIM-9, MAV, HARM as well.

Good suggestions, I'll certainly add some of those. Part of the challenge is keeping it as compact and concise as possible, and in that nature this is meant more as a reference / reminder than a full explanation of everything that's possible (which is also why I omitted single-function buttons as well).

Yeah, I hear you. I'm famously bad at keeping things concise, so I appreciate where you're coming from. I think it's because I've developed the professional habit of being exhaustive when it comes to details.

You didn't miss any of the Cage/Uncage functions, just that the button both cages and uncages stuff. But it might be a better idea to just name the button Cage/Uncage, instead of just Uncage and leave everything else as is. But again, I'm hugely nitpicking now, as you say, it's just supposed to be a reference, not a first-time guide.

Got it, that's a good note. Actually, going back and looking at it, I typed "Cage / Uncage HUD" as one function, then "Uncage Seeker" immediately after it, which is inconsistent and could be confusing.
