JACN Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Hi All, Can anybody tell me how realistic are helos FM in ArmA?...compared with BF, of course :P I´ve seen many ArmA videos and they seem too responsive (unrealistic), specially the big ones (Mi-17 & Blackhawk). Thanks,
Yellonet Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Flight in Arma and BF = lol. That about covers it. i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
Boberro Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Agreed. There is no any FM (of course I don't count model to go up, forward, right, left :D) Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
JACN Posted June 29, 2008 Author Posted June 29, 2008 So no difference at all between big helos/small helos? no inertia effects?. Also I think to have read that torque needs to be counter act with pedals...that would be an improvement over the BF FM...except in the case of Cobra, Ka-50 and Blackhawk :P
Grimes Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Well if you have to compare between BF2 and Arma I'd have to say that arma is slightly better. You can tell your flying a little chopper vs a bigger one. I havn't played BF2 in a while but if I recall the choppers were pretty highly responsive across the board at least in terms of thrust. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Thanks, The latest patch has some improvements on Armas helicopter FM(patch 1.14). There has been alot of debate on the Arma Forums about the FM in particular tail rotor input used to cut out at low speed. Now its alot better and vastly better than any other FPS including BF2. Regarding the bigger helicopters I suggest you try out FSX accelerations EH101 and compare it to the R22 the bigger helicopters are much easier to fly and IRL even easier than FSX accelerations EH101 since IRL it has FBW as does the UH60 and thats also part of the problem of both FSXs EH101 which should be much easier to if they modeled the FBW and Armas UH60 should also be different from an Mi17 which is non-FBW. As for Armas fixed wing aircraft well everyone here would probably agree it needs alot of work. One thing I do like now though is the helicopters and vehicles can now be used to paint tgts for LGBs. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]

Vekkinho Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Don't look for realism in helos with ArmA! Better save your money for BS! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Maximus_G Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 So no difference at all between big helos/small helos? no inertia effects?. Of course they're different in the game. Bigger helos are less agile in various turns. UH-60 is harder to land on a spot than MH-6 for example. But Blackhawk flies faster. Arma's heli FM is better than it was in OFP, but unfortunately it's not as good as it could be. For example, weight changes don't feel really, whether your heli is loaded up or not. Still helicopters are fun to ride in the game - the joy is just not about flying really, but about performing different tasks.
JACN Posted June 30, 2008 Author Posted June 30, 2008 Don't look for realism in helos with ArmA! Better save your money for BS! Thanks for the tip, but I think I know what can I expect from both (a game and a hard-core sim) :smilewink: I think BF2 helos are not so bad modeled...considering it´s a "shoot´em up", and I just wanted to know how good/bad are ArmA´s choppers compared with a "same league" tittle (i.e. BF2) For what I´ve seen in many youtube videos, ArmA´s choppers seems to be extremely sensitive to cyclic inputs...neglecting any inertia effects, specially in big helos. Indeed I´ve seen a video where Chinook was performing 360º rolls while hovering; something that did not happen in BF2, at least in such a crazy way! Anyway, thanks for your comments guys!
SUBS17 Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Hi SUBS17, Thanks for your reply! See you at VRS ;) Álvaro Yeah VRS is a cool project I see since the Rhino went final beta that their forums are down. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]

Actually Armas helicopters cyclic is not sensitive enough especially compared to FSX and BS. The reason why the chinook can do rolls is most likely due to Armas helicopters having aerobatics modelled for KA50, cobra and MH6. So if someone made a chinook 3d model and used any of those aircrafts FM then similar performance can be acheived. All Arma needs is a more detailed FM but I doubt in its current version that could be possible its still better than BF2 though and yes it is hooked up to my Hotas and rudder pedals no problem. JACN Posted July 12, 2008 Author Posted July 12, 2008 Hi guys, Can anybody tell me how can the ArmA Flight Models be tweaked?. I´ve been looking for a tutorial but...no luck :( I´d only want to edit the flying qualities parameters not build a whole new model. Thanks in advance! Álvaro
SUBS17 Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Ask here the guys do that stuff are on that forum. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
JACN Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 Ask here the guys do that stuff are on that forum. Yes, I´m still waiting to be allowed to post in that forum  What a stupid and dumb forum registry method they have!!! :badmood: Álvaro
