shadepiece Posted January 15, 2021 Posted January 15, 2021 Does anyone know how the convergence on the MiG-15 bis was set up at the factory, and whether or not the DCS bird follows suit. Also, was wanting to know if anyone had any information on the ballistics of the different cannon shells. shadepiece Posted January 28, 2021 Author Posted January 28, 2021 Oh awesome! Just now saw this! That is sweet, thank you! Cheers! Fire only at close range, and only when your opponent is properly in your sights. -Hauptmann Oswald Boelcke, Jasta 2
Nealius Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Convergence is only a thing with wing-mounted guns, considering how far apart they are. Nose-mounted guns are all right next to each other and will have very little in terms of convergence.

Yes the guns are close together, but where the round cross the gunsight line vertically is equally if not more important. Does anyone want to take a crack at translating the above documents? Toriy Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 (edited) Look at figure 146. On the left side you can see a small box - this is a gunsight and its line of aiming. 2 curves below are trajectories for cannons. Conditions: H=4000 m AGL, speed of the plane is 792 km/h (220 m/c), speed of the target is 720 km/h 200 m/c, initial distanse at which fire is open 800 m. advance (future) range 1090 m, The best angles of the gunsight for these conditions are 25.6' or 26'40''. Figure 145 is a shooting target. Sorry, no time to translate. Edited February 9, 2021 by Toriy 1
shadepiece Posted February 9, 2021 Author Posted February 9, 2021 Thanks, Toriy! That clears it up for me quite a bit. Fire only at close range, and only when your opponent is properly in your sights. -Hauptmann Oswald Boelcke, Jasta 2
Schmidtfire Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 Found this info: "the MiG-15 carried autocannons: two 23 mm with 80 rounds per gun and a single 37 mm with 40 rounds. These weapons provided tremendous punch in the interceptor role, but their limited rate of fire and relatively low velocity made it more difficult to score hits against small and maneuverable enemy jet fighters in air-to-air combat. The 23 mm and 37 mm also had radically different ballistics, and some United Nations pilots in Korea had the unnerving experience of 23 mm shells passing over them while the 37 mm shells flew under." https://flyingleathernecks.org/project/mikoyan-gurevich-mig-15-fagot/ 1
Dragon1-1 Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Do note that this is the account of those who got shot at within the MiG's convergence distance. Those that were caught at convergence range were shot to ribbons. 1
