HP Reverb G2 - UK Availability?

Hi

 

Has anyone heard when System Active or HP might be getting more stock of the Reverb G2 in the UK?

 

I have had the Rift S for18 month now and it was a great way to get in to VR, but I m fed up of blurry text forcing me to lean in to read the DDIs.

 

Looks like there is stock availalbe in other countries.

 

I have tried contacing SA and HP without much success.

I have a pre-order with System Active since November, have now been informed that they will fulfill all preorders by 19th Feb, with HP supply from the US on the 16th Feb. To be honest they have communicated quickly but are beholden to HP supply chain in the US. So I would think they will start normal orders after that, from what we've been told they only are receiving orders every 8-10 weeks from US, so not an optimistic answer I'm afraid.

Yes, and the HP Store UK still says arriving November 2020!

They were really good with updates on my July preorder. Unfortunately the unit died in a matter of days post December delivery, so end of March RMA date for me still. But as stated it's HPs abomination of a process to own, not the resellers.

I had a very good experience with them too.  Very good comms all the way through the process, from ordering in July to delivery in December.

Just to update my thread for anyone else considering a G2 in the UK. HP are receivng a batch of units with controllers tomorrow. There are a few still available. £658

Well that's karma, I've just received an email that it's been shipped, so hopefully others who had a March date may also get their RMA unit.

Glad to hear you should have your replacement soon.

 

Standby for my questions next week about how I set this thing up. To be fair the Rift S was easy, but I get the feeling the G2 isnt quite the same?

If it works for more than 3 days or at all

 

It isn't too difficult tbh, but it is more of a faff than a Rift Main thing to get your head around is that it's a WMR headset so it uses WMR Portal settings, combined with WMR for Steam AND SteamVR

I dont use Steam or SteamVR at the moment, so will have to get my head around the setup of those. 

 

I have just ordered an NVME drive so am going for a new install of the OS and DCS next week. That way it wont have any of the old Oculus software lying around possibly causing me trouble and I can install Steam to that.

 

Will I only need SteamVR do you know?

I dont use Steam or SteamVR at the moment, so will have to get my head around the setup of those.

Unit turned up. And as would appear to be normal just the HMD was swapped out still the same issue so must be psu or cable. Too much time wasted refund time!!

If you have the standalone version of DCS (which I'm guessing you do) then you will need to install SteamVR and WMR for Steam. Good luck, and hopefully the hardware Gods will be with you It's a great headset. There's a lot of info on the forum re the G2 and DCS and an incredibly helpful community so I'm sure you'll be up and running with relative ease.

Mine worked for a few days (I had some initial setup problems with the hololens driver it should automatically install). And then it just refused to be recognised by the WMR portal app. The usual 4-1 and 4-4 errors that are all over the Internet. Tried all of my USB ports (Intel Z490 based MB) but it never came back. Also tried my sons machine and my laptop, and bought a SATA powered PCIe USB card......same issue. So assumed it was a problem with the HMD, RMA in December new Headset turned up today, exactly the same issue. So the only thing it can be is the cable and/or the PSU. Real shame they don't just send out the entire kit for RMA, as I suspect if they had supplied an additional cable my old HMD would have worked too. Also (as is  well documented on the Interwebs) they ship the new HMD with no speakers so you have to detach them from the old unit, not a huge deal but a bit of insult added to injury Follow up call with HP re them now shipping a replacement cable but goodness knows how long that could take. I may well go down the refund route as I have a preorder of the Deca Gear in, and to all intents and purposes it seems to be a G2 spec wise without the added pain of WMR. All that said my frined has a unit that he also pre ordered at the same time and he has had no issues (as yet). So silicon lottery I guess.....
