Hi,

Is it possible to change the Rate of Fire (ROF) of the M61 gun on the Viper? I believe there is a choice between 4000 rounds per minute (rpm) and 6000 rpm on the FA/18 and this depends on the weapon and not the aircraft (platform). I don't see this option on the wpn/sms page in a-a or a-g master modes.

Does anyone know? Am I wrong?

Regards

There is no way of setting the ROF in the real jet.

It's also not depending on the gun, but more on the systems which drive it.

I'm not aware of any ability for the F-16C to change the gun-rate like the Hornet.

The M61 is definitely capable of going from 3000-6000 RPM, but I'm not aware of any control in the F-16C to do so.

(rate selectable in certain installations)

Probably referring to particular installations of the M61 (such as the Hornet/Tomcat to name just 2).

At the bottom of the article it mentions RoF of either 4000 - 6000 with 6600 being maximum.

AFAIK M61 in M163/167 VADS fires at 1000/3000RPM. Early Phalanx Blocks also fired at 3000RPM (later 4500RPM).

6600RPM is on the lighter M61A2, which is only on the F-22 and Super Hornet AFAIK.

Hmm maybe not be set in the cockpit but on the gun itself perhaps in pre-flight?

No, its not possible in the Viper. There is simply no way to adjust it from either cockpit or the gun
