Radio transmit switches without communication menu

One thing that I've been able to do with the Tomcat but don't seem to be able to do with the Viper is to transmit radio calls without bringing up the communications menu.  Flying online and using SRS, it's a little annoying to have to deal with the menu suddenly taking over the function keys and making the menu disappear again means keying the mic switch.  I would just unbind those keybinds however I still need to be able to talk to AI assets like tankers.

Unless there's already an option to do this that I haven't found?

I´ve added a Modifier (RCtrl) to the Transmit key; so when using SRS I transmit just using the Mic switch and when I want to talk to the Tanker (really the only time I need to talk to the AI) I use Ctrl + Mic switch.

Sorry to bump an older thread, but since you're creating seperate binds in both SRS and DCS, does using Ctrl+Mic switch still trigger the SRS mic? Or can SRS tell that you used Ctrl+Mic even if the modifier was not set within SRS itself?

You'd want a kind of "dummy key" which does all of the things that SRS detects without actually instigating the AI radio menu. That requires some developer help I think. What I've done is bind transmit directly to SRS which has airplane-specific profiles. Further my joystick software produces a different button pressing the button for a short duration than a long hold. I bind the long hold to SRS and the short tap to DCS so I can use the same physical switch to do both.

Thanks for the suggestions, folks.

I'd still like to see this option in the controls setup at some point though.

If you want this control option added I suggest that you improve your original explanation about what you'd like to see. It's really confusing to understand what you exactly mean, so please give a deeper explanation about exactly what you'd like to see implemented, and how. Safe flights!

To pile on this: to clarify what OPs intention is ( probably ) - at least as far as I see it - and would love to see implemented:

When you press PTT for VHF or UHF, have a secondary function that does NOT open in game communication menus, but does all the other things - such as highlighting the UHF or VHF ( inverse video black ) on the DED.

This allows users of whatever 3rd party communications application they may be using to map the same keys to UHF and VHF transmit to the application, as well as the DCS F16 control mapping for the radios - without actually opening the communication menu as if one was about to talk to the AI.

In short - provide a control mapping called "VHF Transmit - PTT only" that does absolutely nothing but highlight the VHF radio, then do the same for UHF. ( and inhibit a datalink round if using the IDM?).

🙂
