To anyone that can help,

I am having and issue with game stuttering. For the first 5-10 seconds of starting a single player game in both the stable and beta versions, my game begins to stutter. FPS is stable at 144fps on high settings then starts to jump around anywhere from 125 to 180 FPS. This is causing a 1-2 second stutter in my game. I have done everything from set FPS in nvidia control, reinstall, try playing on low settings, just about everything. Here is my set up

5900x

x570 Aorus Master

game is on M.2 Samsung Evo

3080 FE

WINDOWS 10

144hz Monitor

Any help would be much appreciated.

Can you temporarily run the rig without the riser card?

There have been many reports of the riser cards causing issues in various programs.

If you can't reconfigure physically - switch to PCI-e 3 for that slot in the BIOS. Video cards really don't need Gen 4 bandwidth.

Yea I am thinking it is probably the riser card. I have a gigabyte mother board x570. Never had luck with riser cards with it. It’s just a pain cause it’s hard line tube. I’ll have to re-do the hard tubing. Thanks

Tried that. It does not work. I have been back and forth with ED for about a  month now and they don't have answer for me at this point.

I have changed my bios to gen 3 and nothing. Even bought a gen 4 riser card and changed the bios to gen 4, no change. I have done DDU, no change. Vsync, no change. On a hunch I just think the riser card is the issue. Like I said, the first 10 seconds are stable, 144 fps. Then its start to jump and stutter. I really don't want want to change how my gpu works. Spent a lot of money on the EK water block for it not to mount it vertically. I can run Star Citizen no issues. Its just DCS that has stuttering. Very frustrating.

#1 Do you have DCS excluded as a process from you anti virus.

#2 Do all your games run smooth at 144fps Is it only DCS with the problem

#3 Got a Track IR??

#4 Game mode OFF, Scheduling OFF??

#5 Check anything to do with re-size bar in the bios, long shot I know??

#6 Try disable hot plug with an autoexec.cfg file use this... no_device_hotplug = true

If I was you, and I use to watercool everything too. I would try everything before re-piping your system. It could be the riser card though.

Bossco,

1. No I haven’t I will do that

2. Yes all games except DCS run okay. I play star citizen, no issues.
3.I do have track IR. I have ran the game without it on and still have the same issue

4. Game mode is off, I don’t know what a scheduling is. Can you explain?
5. I don’t know how to change that in my bios, can you direct me to that setting?

6. I have turned hot plug off and also installed the .exe, doesn’t help.

Svsmokey,

I have caped the frame rate all the way down to 60fps. Same thing happens. Does not help.

Both if you thank you for taking the time to help me out. Very much appreciated. I would buy you a bottle of your choice if I could. Haha.

One more thing, I turned on the task manager when it began to stutter to try and see if there was a program running with DCS. And of course, when I have the task manager open on the screen while the game plays, stutter goes away. No sure what that means.

Bossco,

I did some research and found that resizable bar feature isn’t yet available for 3080. Just 3060 and 30 series laptops. Nvidia said that a new vbios update for all 30 series cards will be available late March some time.

I have excluded the game from my antivirus, put the autoconfig file in, and capped the Mhz to 120 and 60, nothing helped. Since it only started this after I installed the riser card in, I am almost sure its that. I will never buy another Gigabyte MoBo again. Any chance this issue will go away with future bios/vbios/driver updates?

It's not a Gigabyte mobo issue per se, it's a riser thing. Do some research - there are many postings about PCI-e riser card issues on Gen4. All manufacturers are affected.

IIRC Hardware Canucks did a video on this in the last few months and discussed the issues and what riser dongles worked for them.

Are you sure you down speeded your riser connected PCI slot to Gen3 and tested? I ask because in most cases this is the fix with risers on Gen4. Is the riser a Gigabyte unit or some random ebay crapware? Powered? Length?

Best of luck!

LINKUP - Ultra PCIe 4.0 X16 Riser Cable [RTX3090 x570 B550 RX6900XT Tested] Shielded High-Speed Vertical Mount Gaming PCI Express Gen4 2021┃Universal 90 Degree Socket {20cm} 3.0 Gen3 Compatible

This is the one I purchased from Amazon.

I looked up that exact cable on Amazon. Check out the 3 star review from "Lisa". Looks like she had the same problem.

I would doubt a lot that its a problem from Gigabyte, I would predict that you would have this problem with any mobo. If it is the riser cable.

Scheduling is "GPU Scheduling" Display Settings/Graphics Settings/Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling/ Some flight sims dont tend to like it. On my system DCS prefers it off, I get a micro stutter using Track IR if it is on. It is only slight though and only really noticeable on Syria.

DCS is a funny title. I can run Battlefield 5, Sniper Elite 4, Call of Duty WW2 no problems. DCS was the tricky one to pin down. I think it is the size of some of the textures. While your flying around or looking with the Track IR the scenes change much faster than they do in a first person shooter game.

The only other thing I can think of is that some other process is disrupting DCS on your installation of Windows. Use DCS with Fullscreen set to OFF. Then ALT-TAB out and open task manager. Set DCS to high priority and see if it makes a difference. Its a long shot but worth trying anything before resorting to removing the riser.

Reece- I have the PCIE set to gen 3 and no change

Bossco- I turned GPU Scheduling off, no change. I also set DCS as high priority, no change.

That all being said, this was not an issue until i water cooled the PC and put the riser in. I first had a EKWB Gen 3 Riser Cable and swapped it for the above one. I have the same issue with both. I used to have a 2080 Super and a 3800x with the same MoBo with a Cable mod riser cable and had issues other video issues. I put the 2080 Super back into the MoBo and it solved the issue. So my gut is saying its the riser cable.

That being said, should I just be patient and wait for these manufactures to solve the issue through software or just bite the bullet and get rid of the riser. I do not know if this is a big enough deal for them to fix IE how many people is this affecting. I also know about the current USB issues with the 5000 series CPU's which I think it has something to do with the current AGESA version in the BIOS. Thanks all for your time with this issue. It is much appreciated. Please let me know what you think.

Bones man, its your system at the end of the day. So this is my 2 cents.

I have done hard piping once and it was a couple of years ago. Only if you can mate this is what I would do.....

Get some soft piping that will connect to your hard pipe fittings temporarily if you can...

Drain and fit the soft tubing to the GPU connections only and remove the riser adapter. This way you wont disturb the rest of your water cooling or have to remove your gpu waterblock. Fit your 3080 into the motherboard without the riser and set Gen 4 like its suppose to be in the Bios. See if it fixes the problem. Thats only my personal opinion. I would want to know for sure whats causing the error. Just incase it is something else.

Do the test re-fill with some de-ionised water to save money if your using more expensive coloured coolant.

I have problems with stuttering at startup of a mission as well.

Making sure the pagefile.sys (virtual memory on your hard drive) is on my fastest drive is what cures it for me.  SSD if you can.

Well gents I did a quick soft line tubing and put the gpu directly into the mother board. NO FKN CHANGE BOYS. I am really out of answers now. The last thing I can think of is this amd bios issue everyone keeps speaking of. Bossco do you get any stuttering on DCS?

3WA- not sure how to do that. Can you provide steps please?

Ok.  In Windows, go to the search bar on the bottom left, and type in System Settings.  Click on View Advanced System Settings.

Under Performance tab, click Settings.  Go to Advanced Tab.  Under Virtual Memory, hit Change.  Go down the list of drives it gives you and click "no paging file" on all the slow ones.

On your fastest drive, click System Managed Size.  I only have one paging file on my SSD C Drive, and have deleted paging files on all the others, as they are too slow.

Now, when your computer runs out of memory and starts using hard drive space for it (virtual memory), it will be sent to your fastest drive.

This cleared up stuttering for me, as the computer was waiting on my slow drives to respond.  Not anymore.

Ok so at least you have eliminated the riser card.

No I don't have any stutter now. My specs are...

Amd 5600x 4.6ghz @ 1.2v

Msi X570 gaming edge wifi, latest bios

Crucial ddr4 3200mhz c16 4x8gb single rank

Sabrent 1tb nvme OS and games, page file windows managed stock

Msi 2080ti, latest drivers MSAA enhanced, 2x MSAA, power max in nvidia CP. The other setting stock

Track IR5 set to priority high

Hisense 4k TV 60hz/fps

DCS is set at...

Textures high

Vis Distance Ultra or maxed

Preload max

MSAA x2

Shadows Flat

Vsync on

Full screen off

Since your other games work. Is your DCS install ok. I only have Beta installed. I play single player in DCE campaigns but even in a big Mig ball over the trees in Caucuses I don't get a stutter.
