Terzi Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 I think the current icon set is really outdated. I don't know for what reason this was chosen, but icons similar to Tacview would be so nice. Aircraft type should be distinguishable and its heading should rotate. Just why on earth would someone like to see "half egg-shaped F" without any heading rotation or any sort of indication of its type. 2 1

Even at that: We don't have the full set, or even the set covering our vehicles, leading to some units with the wrong symbols. No direction indicators (real symbology uses a line). No additional information is present. It works in the wrong way (blue is supposed to denote friendly units and red is supposed to denote hostile units, if you're on REDFOR, you should see other REDFOR units as friendly). Red is the wrong shape (the current shapes are all for friendly units). We can't group multiple units together (for instance, if I make a tank platoon, each tank will have its own individual icon, if I then zoom out these icons will become overlayed and squashed together - I'd rather they instead form the tank platoon symbol). See here. I recommend you to choose and edit the russian ones because they display there heading on the F-10 map. I trying to create a mod at the moment and I think I will upload it soon. Here a WIP picture that I took from Growling Sidewinders server. The Icons are saved in \DCS World\MissionEditor\data\NewMap\images\themes Edited March 7, 2021 by Mike_Romeo 4 My skins
Terzi Posted March 7, 2021 Author Posted March 7, 2021 @Mike_Romeo good work. Still I would like to see such easy implementation from ED side to be universal and official. Those who care about NATO symbols can still use them. To me they are pretty useless I am not NATO officer I am a gamer. Your work looks fantastic. 1
scutxd Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 Hey, there is a useful mod, F10 Map NATO Directional Icons, https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3311426/
Tank50us Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 I agree with the idea of basing it off of TacView, especially in the Mission Editor, while having the 2D version available for those with lower performance PCs. The reason I'd like to see a 3D ME is fairly simple: I'd like to be able to see where units will be on certain terrain features, and so I can see how well (for example) troops can see and engage things from where they are.
CaptHawk Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Speaking of icons, after the latest beta update on my dedicated server, there are Airplane Icons that appear after an AI is shot down. When you click on the icon, it displays for example "su_27 pilot. Never seen this before this update.
