Had some time  after finishing current campaign and so have given some love to my original free campaign.  Now with optional Super carrier version. DCS Super carrier module required. Available free in the user files.

Cheers

Nice! Having just finished Serpents Head 2 I was looking for another campaign to get into - I would not mind doing this one again with the Supercarrier this time.

Thanks so much for the updated version!

I have been having a hard time passing mission 4. Unable to make NVGs work. Today I finally did a good bomb run, then went after the escaping cars w/ MavE. Thought I was on my way to a win but....nearly back to waypoint 3 I get told I had not taken out both cars. Well, h--l, if I had known that, I could have tried w/ gun. Too late now. Another mission fail.

Hi which campaign and which mission are you referring to? Bit confused regarding the escaping cars? Generally to use NVG's you need to get the ground crew to load them on board before you take off.

Campaign = THE SERPENT'S HEAD (Nevada and Caucasus) Rev 07 SUPERCARRIER

Mission = REMOVING THE SERPENTS HEAD. (Black Sea)

Maybe they are escaping in trucks? Anyway they are escaping from the stadium after I bombed it and I am called to take them out by the JTAC. The JTAC lases them for me

I have never used NVGs before so wasn't aware they need to be loaded before takeoff. Thank you for that. I will try again.

Hi with you now. Yes you need to stay in a tight orbit over given way point and carry out a JTAC 9 line for the two vehicles. You will be told when you have taken out the two vehicles and given further directions. Hope this helps 👍

IIRC I did it just fine without the NVG's.

Yes, I tried the NVGs but the illumination flares over the stadium whited everything out. I didn't try them w/ the vehicles. I never saw the vehicles, just saw their lockon indicator on the MavE screen. I will keep trying this. Thanks for the help.

This is getting really frustrating. I hit the stadium, get confirmation of good hits. Orbit around waypoint 4. Get the message from overlord about the escapees in the vehicle. Come out of the orbit flying toward the stadium as I contact the JTAC. Get the 9 line, he asks if ready for further talk-on, right as I click to reply, I get told I haven't killed the vehicles. Well, no kidding.......and I failed the mission. WTH? Maybe I should have stayed in the orbit????????

Yes you need to stay in orbit at the way point. Use your HSI to ensure you are. You are wandering outside of the fail zone. Unless you keep control it is surprising how far your jet will wander. Don’t come out of the orbit until ready to tell him to laze. You also need then to fly through the way point on the correct heading to ensure you are pointing in the correct direction. It is all about control and situational awareness which is not so easy in the dark.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Glyn. I will get this yet. BTW, I am not clear on where to return to once I finally make all the hits. Tublisi or the boat?

Finally. I got it. Flew it twice this AM and the second time I made it.  A  suggestion, based on my several failures, would be to tighten up the notification when one of the APC's is missed. There are 2 APCs and 2 MavEs so not much room for error. The three times I missed one I wasn't told about it until almost to waypoint 3 and that was the same notification where I was told I failed the mission. Had I been notified earlier, I could have tried it w/ the gun. Also in an overall sense, I don't think sending one plane on this mission and requiring hitting 100% of the targets is very realistic. I would think that blowing the stadium, killing one of two APCs, and killing the chopper, could be rated a success.

Glad you got it in the end.
The JTAC will tell you if you have a hit and unless you got both vehicles you wouldn’t have received instructions to move on. However will bear your comments in mind for possible future revisions.

Hope you enjoyed.

Had another playthrough of this great campaign over the last couple of days.

My favorite mission has to be taking out the 6 roadblocks, loved that mission.

Really looking forward to the updated Serpents Head 2 campaign when it becomes available.

I see that is how it worked after I hit both. But if I fire both Mavs and take out just one, I don't think I was told anything. So what to do? I just headed back the way I came. And, way to late to do anything about it, I was notified I failed the mission because I missed one.

I see your point. It is very difficult though to get a response from a none event i.e. not hitting something. ( Not impossible though). Could add a zone around the vehicles which will give you a warning if you stray outside it and only one vehicle has been destroyed  🙂

Glyn I can certainly understand the 'response from a none event' thing. I have been flying the FA-18 for a little over 2 years flying all provided missions in Caucusus and PG maps. Maybe 3-4 months ago I downloaded my first campaign and haven't looked back. So much fun. Even though I had a lot of trouble w/ this mission, I do want to say that I really, really enjoyed the campaign. My hat is off to you and other campaign authors. Thanks for all the work you put in so we can have fun.

Hi CBStu

Just so you know found time to update Serpent’s Head Campaign. It now is in line with DCS 2.7 including clouds etc. Took the opportunity to add a warning in the last mission if the player only hits one of the escaping vehicles and starts to leave the area. So no one in the future will have the issue you had. 🙂👍
