Flaming Cliffs install error 3 ??

I bought FC a couple years ago on CD from the TrackIR website, I just did a fresh install of Lock-on (non Gold) unpatched and I'm trying to install FC, I keep getting this error 3 ?? What gives?

Error Code 3 is a corrupted download.

 

Did LockOn Modern Air Combat run OK prior to you attempting to install Flaming Cliffs? Is your Flaming Cliffs CD undamaged?

 

 

 

 

And yes - before I forget.....the search function for 'Error Code 3' yields 133 hits ;)

I did search, everything is about download version not the CD that I have, maybe one post.

Lomac worked fine on V1.02 and I had FC installed on my old computer from the CD just fine, but I have a better computer now, I wonder if this is stupid StarForce thing knows it was once installed on my old computer...?

 

Just uninstalled from old, no difference?

But it is strange that he is getting the error code three because that's usually referring to a corrupted download for the download version of FC. Since this is the CD version, we're not quite sure what's going on.

1.00 original

DO NOT INSTALL 1.02 PATCH

1.1 Flaming cliffs

and 1.12a patch FOR THE CD VERSION

 

if you have vista, install the 1.12b patch

I uninstalled V1.02 and deleted the ED folder. Did fresh install of Lock-On V 1.0 from original CD. Then put in the FC disc (bought from TrackIR and successfully installed on my old computer like 2 years ago, I forgot it was even on there), the disc is mint never out of package except once. It starts installing and about 30 seconds in during textures WINBMP something it gives the same error....error 3, incomplete setup??

This is driving me nuts, just want to fly it on my new rig??

I am having the same issue and I just updated my rig as well... What's your setup?

 

I have:

asus pq5 deluxe mobo

intel e8500 core 2 duo 3.16

g.skill 2G ram (1 stick)

nvidia 8700 512mb

OS: Winxp Pro 32b SP2

My newish setup is

E6600 OC'd to 2.8

8800GT 512

4Gig RAM (Win XP SP3)

 

Man I wish someone knew what was causing this, I was looking forward to running at max. Could run V1.02 at 1680x1080 with everything maxed, heat blur, traffic on blah blah, my old rig was practically minimum everything.

I guess it might not be starforce since it hasn't even installed yet?

Out of curiosity I re-installed on my old crappy PC after completely uninstalling first. Works fine, it's not a bad CD? Unless my new DVD Drive in new comp is flakey, which should not be the case as I just installed a bunch of games and programs with it so it can't be that??

Basically giving up and chucking lock-on I guess.

I got curious as to why it kept crapping out at exactly the same place each time, the textures/WIN.BMP file.....after it installed fine on my old PC I started to suspect maybe something with my DVD drive and the disc. I switched my old optical drive into my new rig and sure enough it installed fine. My new optical drive has never met a disc it didn't like, but I guess this is a first, it just couldn't read past that one part of FC CD. I even did a firmware update etc.

The old dvd drive hung a little but got past it, the CD is flawless, must have bad sectors or something, anyway it's all good now. My first tests are definitely not getting the same silky FPS as 1.02, still almost maxed, planar instead of full shadows, areas with lots of labels drops to 20fps, otherwise high40's.

Glad you got it sort out. As far as FPS go, have you assigned the LO/FC affinity to just one processor core? On some rigs, the sim seems to work best that way. Check this thread: DUAL PROCESSORS and OUR BELOVED SIM.

Thanks, I fogot about the afinity thing, I remember messing with it when FC first came out. It's weird that 1.02 ran like butter, FC definitely does something to glitch it. I also remember when lockon first came out, I had a big difference by changing the directX sound slider lower. I have the same weird sounds in loading as mentioned in that thread.

I guess I have a bunch more tweaking to do.

Does the 1.12a patch break the training missions? I haven't installed that yet.

Install the 1.12a patch, you rather have the fixes than worry about the training missions.
