F/A-18C SERPENT’S HEAD 2 CAMPAIGN 2.7 UPDATE NOW WITH OPTIONAL SUPER CARRIER VERSIONS.

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Updated for 2.7. Includes Normal, Easy A2A versions as before. As requested by fellow pilots now includes optional Super Carrier versions for both options. As the Stennis is not yet available in DCS as standard, an alternative Super Carrier has been used as a stand in.

Super Carrier module required.

Great news!

So. I understand it is not to "capture reality" but is it realistic?

I mean is it more like Raven One or Rising Squall?

Thanks,

What is meant by not trying to "capture reality" is the campaign may put you in situations that you would not get into in reality. The ethos is to hopefully create a campaign with interesting, engaging and immersive missions linked together by a story line.  You could try the 'Serpents Head Campaign' which is free download. This only with emulated voices though. Serpents Head 2 follows on the story line but is obviously of better quality with hundreds of actor voice overs. Hope this helps

@Glyn

I think there may be an issue with Mission 5 in this updated SH2 campaign.

I am approaching the target with my JSOWS loaded and setup , however getting nailed by the SAMS and I am even little over 40K ft and 65-70 miles out.

Will have a look at it. There should be a trigger which does not allow them to go into red alert at that distance. Things as you say may have changed. Thanks.

EDIT: Had a look at it. Set up test mission and flew directly to target at 25 000ft. SAM (BB) stayed dormant until 33.4 miles when it went into red alert. locked me up at 30 miles and fired at 29 miles. So really all worked as should this end?  Height will make no difference to the SAM detection. Height only needed by attacker allowing sufficient  for the JSOW  to reach target without going in the red alert range.

Have had a couple of other attempts, apparently it is enemy plane ai that is getting me, my bad sorry about that.

Going to have to see what I can do about it - thought that guy that joins me was supposed to take care of any enemy air.

Lol yeah just had another go, I had to take out three of them.

Successfully completed the mission this time - great fun!

Man that was some rough weather landing back on the super carrier but I made it.

I had been having trouble getting launched in SH2 for quite a while. I have the SuperCarrier but when the mission launches it looks like the old carrier w/ no deck crew anywhere. So I thought I would delete it and re-install it. When I go to the E-Shop it tells me I already own it. Tried to figure how to re- install it but no luck. So I figure what the heck, it's just $10 so I will purchase it again. Then I see Operation Pontus and decide to buy it first. Buy, it, install it no problem. Go back and purchase SH2. Fire up DCS and there comes a small red dot over the Module Manager symbol. Good. Click MM and SH2 is no where to be found. Messed around yesterday evening and again this AM and still can't figure how to re-install SH2. In MM it doesn't not show up in DLC, in 'Installed', or anywhere. I am on Stable 2.6. I have the Super Carrier which works fine in other campaigns. Any of you have an idea how I can re-install it?

Hi, Did you open the right campaign at the beginning ? There is the normal campaign , normal campaign with EZ refuel, normal with super carrier and finally EZ refuel with super carrier. If you started one of the first two it would be the old carrier.

You should not need to pay twice so raise a ticket with ED and explain the situation regarding the download difficulty.

Hope this helps

I will do that Glynn. To tell you the truth I am not sure what I opened. I downloaded it a while ago, tried immediately to fly it, and don't remember having a choice as to which version. That might just be my old brain. But ever since, it always opens the same so I bet I opened the wrong version. W/ your explanation that makes perfect sense. I will do a ticket. Thanks for your help.

Having another play through of this great campaign with the Super Carrier and DCS 2.7.

Man oh man I am so stuck on Mission 9. Between the smoke and the new clouds hanging low I am finding it extremely difficult to find all the tanks. Plus I start to run low on fuel as I keep trying to find them.

2 days now I have been trying to accomplish this one.

Maybe tomorrow will be the charm.

Hi, now had a chance to fly the mission with new clouds. Clouds add a little difficulty but should not be too much of a problem. Managed all tanks etc fine.

Firstly use FLIR in IR. Best way to quickly locate the moving tanks is definitely by using Surface radar in GMT (moving vehicle mode) spots tanks instantly, lock them up, switch to FLIR and it will already be following the tank. Then put FLIR in control. You will then have to change cursor and it will fix to ground . Then put back onto vehicle using a moving lock. You are then all set to drop the GBU as normal.

So should all be good then.

No need to change cloud settings. Just be a little more aware of them and arrange your run ins to avoid the clouded bits.

Hope this helps

Well seems I am having no luck on this either.

Checked out GMT Mode and seemed fairly simple to me - however I am just not getting any hits for the tanks to show up on the radar.

Guess I will have to go back to trying to find them with the FLIR in between the clouds.

Hi, something definitely wrong with how you are using GMT mode if you are not getting hits. They should be instant and easily picked up. Suggest you do some practice missions using it. Then come back to the mission. It’s a very powerful tool.

Hope this helps.

PS are you waiting too long as both moving vehicles stop at the end of their run. You will not pick them up then as they are not moving.

I have no idea, just tried again using FLIR and I just can't get it.

I mean it is not like I have never done this mission before either.

Granted I had not used GMT mode before so guess I need to study up better on it.

But I completed this campaign earlier without it. Back in 2.5.

Can you expand a bit on the two sentences I have marked in bold?

This last attempt on the second tank, I did get a lock in GMT. But could not figure out how to get the drop line and cue back to actually drop the bomb.

Thanks for any tips,

1 Have your GBU set to go using auto / instant fuse / master on / AG set.

2 Have FLIR set up and suggest use IR. ( make sure laser switch is on).

3 Change to radar GMT and locate target then lock.

4 Change radar screen to FLIR. This then will be following tank locked by radar. Set zoom to clearly see tank. At this point you have a lock on the tank on which you could use a Maverick.  But you have a GBU so need a laser to guide the bomb.

5 So make FLIR priority by sensor control switch. Now using TDC move cursor a bit. It will move slightly but then be locked on the ground ( the tank will carry on its way) as the GMT radar is no longer in control. Use the TDC and FLIR as normal. Catch up with tank and create a moving lock. The FLIR and the laser are in control and so you can execute a GBU drop as normal.

So what you have done is locate the tank with the radar in GMT and then jumped to a normal FLIR laser GBU drop. Needs a bit of practice but works well.

Unfortunately  to the best of my knowledge there is not a smooth handoff from a GMT radar lock to the FLIR as there is with the Maverick

Hope this helps
