DCS 2.7 Crash

My DCS 2.7 is crashing even before it ran for the first time

Do you have a DCS log to help track this down?

There is normally one called dcs.log - I think yours might just be dcs (the text document)

yes mine is crashing as well, randomly, had no issues  before 2.7 came along, its very fustrating, seems to be more common now with an increasing number of users, seems 2.7 is the main reason, and i hope ed address this with an update(hotfix) soon.

I cant even get to the homepage of DCS so I don't know how to play DCS until stable comes along

Are your Intel graphics drivers up to date?

The dcs.log file shows an access violation associated with this (the lines in red below)

 

I don't believe these drivers meet the minimum specification for DCS - do you also have a separate graphics card?

My intel drivers are up to date, also im on win10

What machine do you have?

I'm using Surface Pro 3, but i was able to play DCS 2.5.6 with 29 fps

Its anyways not good for DCS but using it as I'm out of town. Details below:
Processor    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4300U CPU @ 1.90GHz   2.50 GHz
Installed RAM    4.00 GB
System type    64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch    Pen and touch support with 10 touch points

As you can see, it only needs more RAM and a good graphics card

Somehow this has been happening only after 2.7. Otherwise 2.5 stable worked pretty well on my Surface Pro 3.

Couple of things I noticed:

Usually graphics related. You're not using a dedicated graphics card. This is an all-in-one computer, non upgradable, correct?

 

Then there are several file creation issues. Meaning those files either cannot be written into RAM or vice versa, not to disk (for various reasons).

 

Then let's not forget that the 2.7 release is BETA software, not a stable release. So errors are expected, you've been warned.

 

Lastly, how big is your swap file or page file? It must be huge I suppose given only 4GB of main memory.

 

Can you access the memory slots via the back cover? This should be DDR 3 RAM, maybe you can find a cheap stick on ebay in order to upgrade to 8 or 12.

I know but I've been able to run 2.5.6 without one crash. I really don't know why is this happening. I know my graphics card is below the requirements but this is a mystery of how I'm able to play 2.5.6 stable and not 2.7 openbeta.

Also while playing 2.5.6, my pagefile would grow to around 12 gb.

And, forgot to mention that I had to sit in a room with the air conditioner at 18 degrees otherwise my laptop would start to give 7-15 fps because of the throttling.

I have also crashes since 2.7.  

 

However my PC configuration is correct: AMD Ryzen 7 3700x;  RTX 2070;  32 Gb RAM;  1Tb SSD for DCS.

Everybody is having crashes..but nobody has voiced out my case.

I have also noticed that when I don't run DCS as administrator, the taskbar icon moves as if it is downloading something but when I run DCS as an administrator, the icon looks like this:

I think the new indeterminate progress bar effect on the taskbar icon is a new thing with 2.7 and it's cool, it indicates it's indeed loading/preparing or waiting for login confirmation, tho if a crash or hang happens hopefully the code is written in such a way it would stop the progress effect to relay that, otherwise it loses it's usefulness.

 

Technically I'm not sure what exactly is this kind of a progress bar, it doesn't actually look like an standard indeterminate one, perhaps it's a different style in Win10 for the same thing.

I've opened my surface pro 3 once and I had almost damaged the laptop so I'm scared to do anything with it now. If you read the whole thread you must have seen my specs.
