Hi all!

Not really a bug but just something I would like to point out about switch&knob positions before starting the plane. I thought this would be the most appropriate section and I apologize if I miscalculated it... 😊

Most of knobs & switches positions in the DCS F-18 once you jump in the cockpit are according to NATOPS Interior Check section. Only the following disagree and should be:

- Oxygen flow knob - OFF

- Mode 4 switch - OFF

- Comm1 and Comm2 knobs - OFF

Not a game changer but I thought I would point it out so that maybe we could have a very realistic cold&dark configuration which is already 99% accurate. 😉

Yeah especially Comm 1 & 2 I wish the would be in the OFF position on cold start. As you can see HERE

And will be turned ON after powered up after right engine start HERE

hace 1 hora, Swiftwin9s dijo:

Oxy flow has to be on in DCS because otherwise you'd suffocate.

For the others, doesn't said checklist indicate that you should set those switches to those positions as part of the pre engine start 😉

Just pulling your leg.

I know that the knob should be in the ON position to have oxygen flow and that the lack of oxygen is simulated in DCS; of course, this is something real pilots do but they have the benefit of actually breathing in their masks to check if the system is working... 😉

As for the checklist, I was referring to the one in the NATOPS (chapter 7) which states for left console interior check (before the engine is started):

OBOGS Aircraft

5. OBOGS control switch - OFF

  a. OXY FLOW knob - OFF

  b. OBOGS monitor pneumatic BIT plunger - VERIFY UNLOCKED AND FULLY EXTENDED

I do believe some modules out there (Mig-15 if I remember correctly) have the opening of the oxygen valve as part of their procedure startup, that is, the valve is closed when cold & dark.

This, I believe, not only would get the startup closer to the actual procedure but would add a little realism flavor in it... 😉
