Why is the AGM-65E not firing here? Why the "X" through it?

A/G selected

Mav selected and uncaged

target is locked, I can see the carat on the target, it's in range

what am I missing?

It looks like the seeker has not picked up a 1688 laser spot. On the left DDI, that "X" should be a solid square, which means it can see a laser spot with the correct frequency. Are you self-lasing, or is the target being lased by someone else? Are they using 1688?

Cheers!

Your laser is not firing yet. You need to assign TDC priority to the FLIR page and press the pickle button. Once the laser is firing and the seeker picked it up, the cross on the seeker page will turn into a solid square and the Maverick is good to launch.

got it, thanks. looks like you can have either DDI selected. Is this something new? I recall the laser just firing automatically when you uncaged the Mav. Maybe I'm thinking of the GBUs

Now that I think about it, I had never tried the 65Es with the TGP, only JTACs lasing.

GBU laser firing is automatic and timed out for you. Mavs AFAIK have always required manual firing.

Not true. Pickling with MAV-E selected will auto fire the laser.

- One press of Pickle fires laser

-PRESS and HOLD fires laser and fires missile when it picks up the spot.

The issue where the TDC could not be assigned to the MAV-E page and have the missile acquire the laser got fixed some time ago.
